Reflections: Staatsburg "Not Just A Place To Live"
A Collection of Interviews with Community Members conducted, transcribed, and edited by Judith Linville
Tuesday, April 21 at 7 PM

This collection of interviews with local residents offers a glimpse of life from pre-World War II through the 1980s in a small Hudson River Valley hamlet, located between Rhinebeck and Hyde Park, New York. The narrators recall what is was like to work on the Great Estates, play all summer in and on the river, get through the Depression, encounter Roosevelts, and live in a once bustling village in simpler times. Each of the narrators interviewed has passed away; but in the stories they left us, each in their own voice, we see how this community, like so many others, is truly a family. From those heartfelt memories, we learn that just as families thrive and struggle together, so did the hamlet of Staatsburg.

Best in Show (2000) Director: Christopher Guest (1 hour and 30 minutes)

Join us at the library as we watch and discuss a different film each month!

It's impossible to consider the "mockumentary" without taking a good look at the work of Christopher Guest, an artist who virtually invented the genre and who certainly perfected it in a string of films beginning with This Is Spinal Tap (1984, directed by Rob Reiner but written by and starring Guest). In Best in Show (2000), his second directorial feature in faked reality territory, Guest set his satiric eye on the world of professional dog shows.
Among the cast are SCTV alums Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, Spinal Tap co-star Michael McKean, and Guffman players Fred Willard, Parker Posey, Michael Hitchcock, Bob Balaban, and Larry Miller. Christopher Guest himself appears as Harlan Pepper, the folksy Bloodhound owner

Trees For Kids - Register For A Free Tree From Neighborhood Forest
MARCH 15 - LAST DAY TO REGISTER https://www.neighborhoodforest.org/registration-services/?school=66755

Join Us in Celebrating Earth Week: Register for a Free Tree for Your Child! This spring, we are thrilled to announce our participation in Neighborhood Forest’s 17th Annual Free Tree Program as part of our Earth Week celebrations from April 19th to 25th!

We are excited to be participating in this wonderful program that teaches youth about the importance of environmental stewardship through the magic and wonder of planting and watching trees grow.

Please fill out the following online registration form by March 15th and receive a free tree (6-12 inches in size) during Earth Week (April 19-25). The tree species will be announced in early April. Neighborhood Forest aims to provide native trees in all regions they serve.

Trees will be delivered to us at the Staatsburg Library and we will arrange to get the trees in the hands of your children on or around Earth Day (April 22nd).

Register to receive a free tree for Earth Day to plant with your child:

REGISTER FOR FREE TREE HERE - https://www.neighborhoodforest.org/registration-services/?school=66755

Instructions on planting and caring for the trees, along with species details, will be emailed a few days before the tree delivery and will also be accessible in the “Resources” section on the Neighborhood Forest website. For further questions, please check out the Parent FAQs.

You will also have the option to donate and / or purchase additional trees and tree-related educational products (via the registration form). Please note this is optional and any purchases/donations will help fund more free trees for kids in the program. Other products that are purchased by you will be fulfilled by Neighborhood Forest.

Since 2010, Neighborhood Forest has reached over 2,000 schools, libraries, and youth groups – engaged over 500,000 volunteers – and planted over 197,000 (mostly urban and residential) trees through the hands of children and parents across North America.

Thank you for your support and participation. For more information about this program, please visit www.neighborhoodforest.org or www.facebook.com/neighborhoodforest.
