Last night the SMSD Education Foundation held their scholarship reception to present scholarships to a group of graduating seniors for their excellence in various academic and extracurricular fields.

Last night was the beginning of a new era for the Stafford City Council! Gratitude and appreciation were expressed for outgoing councilmembers Don Jones, Ken Mathew and Wen Guerra for their many years of commitment and service to the City of Stafford.
Afterwards, councilmembers Virginia Rosas, Xavier Herrera and Tim Wood were sworn into office and assumed their council positions. (New councilmember Christopher Caldwell was unable to attend)

Last night Stafford MSD Board of Trustees members Adam Sanchez & Jacqueline Jean-Baptiste were sworn in at the Stafford MSD board meeting.
It's National Police Week!! National Police Week was created in 1962 by President Kennedy to honor the men and women who risk their lives every day in the line of duty. This week is all about gratitude, remembrance, honor, servitude, and peer support.

Yesterday afternoon Mayor Willis, along with Sugar Land Mayor Joe Zimmerman, Missouri City Mayor Robin Elackatt and local community & business leaders, attended a meeting led by Special Representative Dilawar Syed to discuss opportunities and plans for promoting Fort Bend County.
Last night the Stafford Police Department received the Lexipol Connect Gold Standard Award, which is given to those who exemplify outstanding policy & training management.

This morning Mayor Willis, Assistant Police Chief Horn and Fire Chief Di Camillo spoke at a Clear Channel Outdoor broadcast raising awareness for Hurricane Preparedness Week, which runs from May 1st-7th, in advance of the upcoming hurricane season.

Today is the beginning of Hurricane Preparedness Week! The Atlantic hurricane season begins one month from today, lasting from June 1st - November 30th each year.
National Hurricane Preparedness Week began in 2004 with the purpose of raising awareness of how to be prepared to take action before, during, and after a hurricane.

Last night, Stafford High School unveiled a plaque honoring the late Colonel Thomas M. Ehlinger, who played a pivotal role in developing the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program (JROTC) for the High School campus.
Mayor Willis and members of the City Council were present for the ceremony at the College and Career Center honoring Ehlinger, who is remembered for the tremendous impact he made in the lives of students at Stafford High School.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month 💙
Yesterday afternoon, Mayor Willis proclaimed Monday, April 3rd, 2023 as "Child Abuse Prevention Day" in Stafford! Nearly 200,000 children every year in the state of Texas are considered abused or neglected. In 2022, 2,380 children were provided the comforting service and protection by Child Advocates of Fort Bend, many of whom are from Stafford.
The blue ribbons tied to the white wooden stakes located in "The Awareness Field" are a representation of each child.
Together, we can prevent child abuse and neglect 💙
Yesterday morning Lieutenant Matt Ricks and firefighter Melvin Evanicky with the Stafford Fire Department deployed with Booster 22 as part of a TIFMAS strike team going to the panhandle.
They are a part of STRIKE TEAM 110, which will be staging in an area that will be at an increased risk of wildfires due to weather conditions.
