July 4th’s traffic plans!

TRAFFIC ALERT:

If you plan on attending the Fourth of July event at Pratt Park, please take note of the traffic plan. Road closures begin at 9 p.m. If you plan on arriving to Pratt Park after 9 p.m., you will only be able to access River Road from Kings Highway.

At the conclusion of the event, ALL exiting traffic will be diverted out onto River Road towards Kings Highway. Drivers will not be allowed to turn left onto Chatham Heights Road.

BVFD would like to congratulate BVFD Life-Member and former BVFD Fire Chief, Bill Shelton on becoming SCFR’s newest Operations Deputy Chief. Congratulations, Chief!

Please join us in welcoming Deputy Chief Bill Shelton as our newest Operations Deputy Chief. Chief Shelton most recently served as a Battalion Chief for the Arlington County Fire Department where he was assigned as the Chief Fire Marshal. Chief Shelton is a lifelong Stafford Resident and joined the Brooke Volunteer Fire Department in 1984 where he held various operational ranks including chief. Welcome, Chief Shelton!

This past Thursday, BVFD held their annual election for Fire Chief and department Leaders. The following were the results:
Fire Chief: Gerald Moore
President: Charles Martin
Vice-President: George D. Langford
Secretary: Luke Shelton
Treasurer: Patty Phillips
Sergeant-At-Arms: Joshua Cooper
3 year term Board of Directors: Ryan Parent & William Shelton

Within the next weeks, Fire Moore will appoint the department operational line officers.

Yesterday, the Ambulance 5 crew had a busy day! A5 responded to a structure fire off Route 610 to provide rehabilitation care to on scene fire fighters. The A5 crew, along with AC5, assisted probationary members in vehicle familiarization before attending EVOC Class. A5 then responded to an auto-accident in the northern part of Route 1 and transported one patient to a local hospital.

May is Wildfire Awareness Month and there are many ways you can protect your home and property from wildfires or brush fires including:
-removing extra leaves and pine needles from around your home, which are very flammable
-trimming back branches from around your home and above your roof
-move wood piles and propane tanks away from your home, 30 feet is a good distance
-only discard smoke materials in proper receptacles, not in vegetation

Yesterday, the Ambulance 5 crew had a busy day! Rescue Chief Kimball, Assistant Chief Moore, and EMT Cook performed fire boat training on the Potomac River. After training, Brush 5, with RCH Kimball and EMT Cook, responded for a contained brush fire in the area of Colonial Forge along with E4, B2, and AA9.
