On Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the Stamford Fire Department will host a 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Woodside Fire Station, 1620 Washington Blvd.

Join us as we come together to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call that day.

The public is warmly invited to attend. We encourage members of our community to stand together with our police, fire, EMS, and other public safety personnel as we remember, honor, and never forget.

🚍 SCHOOL BUS SAFETY REMINDER 🚍

The first day of school for the City of Stamford is Tuesday, August 25, 2026! As students head back to the classroom, the Stamford Police Department would like to remind all drivers to be alert for increased school bus traffic and to know when you are required to stop.

🛑 When a school bus is displaying flashing red lights and has its stop arm extended, vehicles traveling in both directions must stop on roadways where opposing lanes are separated only by double yellow lines.

This includes multi-lane roadways such as High Ridge Road and Long Ridge Road, as well as one-way roadways such as Bedford Street and Summer Street.

The exception is on a divided highway, where opposing lanes are separated by a physical barrier, raised median, or similar divider. In those situations, vehicles traveling in the same direction as the school bus must stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction are not required to stop, but should slow down, use caution, and remain alert for children.

Please help us keep Stamford's students safe as they travel to and from school. Take your time, stay alert, and always be prepared to stop. A few extra seconds could save a life. ❤️🚌

Stamford Woman Sentenced to More Than 12 Years in Prison for Selling Drugs and Gun

David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that AMONDA MENDEZ, also known as “M-Dot” and “Dot,” 35, of Stamford, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Vernon D. Oliver in Hartford to 150 months of imprisonment and eight years of supervised release for selling narcotics and a firearm while on federal supervised release.
According to court documents and statements made in court, in June 2016, Mendez was sentenced in Hartford federal court to 10 years of imprisonment and four years of supervised release for narcotics trafficking and firearm possession offenses. She was released from federal prison in January 2025. Between April and July 2025, law enforcement made multiple controlled purchases of crack co***ne and fentanyl, and one purchase of a loaded .40 caliber pistol, from Mendez. The pistol had been reported as stolen.
Mendez was arrested on July 28, 2025. On that date, a search of her person revealed approximately 48 grams of crack co***ne and $1,934 in cash, a search of her Stamford residence revealed approximately 163 grams of crack, and a search of another Stamford residence connected to Mendez revealed $2,456 in cash.
Mendez has been detained since her arrest. On May 27, 2026, she pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of co***ne base (“crack”).
Judge Oliver sentenced Mendez to 120 months of imprisonment for the narcotics trafficking offense, and a consecutive 30 months of imprisonment for violating the conditions of her supervised release.
This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives, and the Stamford Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Gresham.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

FIREARM ARREST – NARCOTICS & ORGANIZED CRIME UNIT

On Monday, August 17, 2026, detectives from the Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit received information regarding a male who was reportedly in possession of a firearm in the area of Soundview Avenue and Wardwell Street.

With the assistance of the Patrol Division and K9 Unit, detectives safely located and detained the individual, identified as Luis Martinez, 39, of Stamford.

A search of Martinez resulted in the recovery of a Kel Tec .32 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with seven rounds.

Martinez was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of a Pistol Without a Permit
• Illegal Transfer of a Firearm
Martinez was issued a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 31, 2026.

The Stamford Police Department recognizes the coordinated efforts of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit, Patrol Division, and K9 Unit in safely taking an illegally possessed firearm off the streets.
