Sales Tax-Free Week begins on Sunday, August 16 and runs through Saturday, August 22!

During this week, the sales tax exemption applies to most clothing and footwear retail purchases under $300. This exemption applies to purchases made from retailers located in Connecticut, as well as from online retailers.

Additionally, effective July 1, the sales tax no longer applies to nonelectronic school supplies. This means the sales tax no longer applies to items such as pens, crayons, notebooks, folders, pencils, binders, and lunch boxes. 🖍️📓🎒

🚸🚗 Stamford is taking another important step to make city streets safer. The City of Stamford will be launching an Automated Speed Enforcement Program at 14 locations in seven school zones across the city. The speed cameras will become operational in September, and this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety and advance the goals of Stamford’s Vision Zero Program.

Speeding is one of the most significant factors contributing to serious crashes, and this program is an important tool to encourage safer driving behavior, especially around our schools.

Important aspects of the program include:

➡ Vehicle owners will be ticketed for exceeding the posted speed limit by 11 MPH or more.

➡ The program will begin with a 45-day warning period, during which drivers who exceed the enforcement threshold will receive a warning rather than a fine.

➡ Following the warning period, violations will result in a $50 fine for a first offense and $75 for subsequent offenses.

➡ Speed camera enforcement fines are a civil penalty and will not be assessed against the owner's driver's license or insurance.

The City of Stamford will receive $3.7 million from Connecticut Department of Transportation to rehabilitate the West Broad Street Bridge over the Rippowam River.

Located along one of our busiest downtown corridors, this bridge is a vital connection for our community, and this funding will help us continue making critical infrastructure investments that improve roadway safety and keep Stamford moving.

⚠️ Heavy rain is causing flooding in our area. If you must travel, use extreme caution and never drive through standing water.

Just a few inches of moving water can cause you to lose control of your vehicle, and floodwaters may conceal washed-out pavement, open manholes, or other hazards.

If you encounter a flooded roadway:

🌧️ Turn around—don't drive through it.
🚗 Slow down and leave extra space between vehicles.
💡 Turn on your headlights to improve visibility.
📱 Avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

Please stay alert and allow extra travel time.
