Celebrating Another Wonderful Genworth Volunteer Day!

Yesterday, the Harboursite community room was buzzing with color, conversation, and connection as Genworth’s incredible employee volunteers joined Stamford seniors for a joyful afternoon of creativity and community.

Residents created colorful “Maps of the Heart to illustrate the people, memories, and moments that mean the most to them. With Genworth volunteers sitting beside them, listening, laughing, and encouraging their stories, the room felt warm and alive.

The fun continued with Bingo, snacks, and plenty of smiles, especially from the lucky winners who took home some great Genworth swag.

Experiences like this help strengthen the social bonds and sense of belonging that are so important to older adults.
We are deeply grateful for Genworth’s ongoing generosity and partnership. Their annual support, and the genuine kindness their volunteers bring—helps SilverSource create meaningful moments of connection that brighten the lives of local seniors.

Thank you, Genworth, for showing up with heart every single year.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day — a global call to protect older adults from harm.

At SilverSource, we see firsthand how abuse, neglect, and exploitation can destabilize a senior’s life. We provide emergency financial assistance, post-crisis support, case management, and advocacy to keep seniors safe.

One in 10 older adults experiences some form of abuse, yet most cases are never reported. Knowing the signs help keep seniors safe:

- Unexplained injuries
- Sudden withdrawal or changes in behavior
- Poor hygiene or unmet basic needs
- Missing money or belongings
- A caregiver who limits access to the older adult

Checking in on older neighbors, friends, and family members can make a difference. If something seems wrong, trust your instincts and speak up. 📢

If you suspect abuse, neglect, or abandonment, call 911 or Protective Services for the Elderly at 1-888-385-4225.

Together, we can ensure older adults in our community are protected, supported, and never left to face hardship alone.

Last night we were thrilled celebrate the ribbon cutting of Viola’s Place – The Viola Isabella Learning Center at SilverSource! This new learning lab—made possible through a generous gift from board member Karen M. Kelly in honor of her mother—will empower older adults with the skills they need to stay safe, connected, and confident online.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, including Senator Richard Blumenthal, Congressman Jim Himes, Mayor Caroline Simmons and Malinda Polite from the AARP. Your support shows just how much our community cares about its older residents.
This is just the beginning. We can’t wait to see the impact Viola’s Place will have for years to come.

SilverSource pitched a tent at the Stamford Police Behavioral Health Unit Fair — a powerful gathering celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month, which saw Stamford come together to shine a light on mental health, reduce stigma, and strengthen connections.

For many seniors, mental health conditions intersect with financial hardship, housing challenges, and social isolation -- and SilverSource is here to help.

- 26% of our clients live with a mental health diagnosis

- 17% manage two or more diagnoses

- Their average support needs are twice as high as those without a known diagnosis

We were proud to stand alongside so many partners dedicated to making Stamford a healthier and more compassionate place!

Last night, we opened our doors to celebrate our volunteers— sharing food, music, and an evening of connection that felt like a family gathering.

Our Cheers to Volunteers event honored the people who reflect the kind of community we’re working to build in Stamford: warm, compassionate neighbors who care deeply for our seniors. As we recognize National Volunteer Month, we’re grateful for everyone who helps make aging in our city an experience of dignity, stability, and caring connections.

Financial Literacy Month is a reminder that understanding money is a lifelong skill — and knowing how to spot scams is part of this. Seniors are too often targeted by scams and financial abuse, because scammers exploit isolation and trust. SilverSource provides education, advocacy, and hands‑on support so older adults don't fall victim. Your support strengthens that safety net.
