On Wednesday July 8th at 6pm there was a special reading of the Declaration of Independence celebrating its 250 Anniversary.

The Greene Historical Society and the Local American Legion Chapter co- sponsored this event that was held at the Stanardsville United Methodist Church. The ceremony was moved from outdoors on the steps of the Court House to inside due to rain.

Joan Powell, President of the Greene County Historical Society, welcomed everyone to the event and introduced the readers to the approximately 50 people in attendance

Three members of the Central
Virginia Time Line dressed in Revolutionary War Uniforms and lead by Michael Bork provided the Flag Honor Guard.

Three members of the American Legion took turns reading the original Words of the Declaration. The first reader was John Ensor followed by Doug Fargo and then John Carson

A special thank you goes out to all those patriots who took part in this moving ceremony
