August is Tree Check Month, so we'll be taking a look at some invasive species to keep an eye out for!

Asian longhorn beetle: This large black & white beetle with very long, stripped antennae. This beetle prefers maples and other hardwoods. Be on the lookout for round holes and piles of sawdust at the base of trees, the result of females boring a hole to lay eggs.

Emerald ash borer: A small, metallic green beetle that can be deadly to ash trees. Some signs may indicate an infestation, such as D-shaped holes, frass-filled (waste similar to sawdust) feeding galleries beneath bark, woodpecker activity, and canopy dieback.

Spotted lanternfly: Small, spotted nymphs can suck sap from plants and leave behind sugary waste, promoting the growth of mold and attracting other pests. These insects can affect a wide variety of plants, but their host plant is another invasive, tree of heaven.

Oak wilt disease: A deadly fungal disease that can be devastating to oak stands. All oaks are susceptible, but red oaks especially are. Keep an eye out for sudden leaf drop, fungal mats beneath bark, cracks in the bark, and dull green, brown or yellow leaves.

Today Dawn and Max attended the Christmas for Kids golf outing and raffled off $175 worth of meat and thanks to our sponsors Hartwick Land and Cattle, Doc’s Bayside Beef and Hagley Farms Beef Shop we were able to raise $1030 for Christmas for Kids! Thank you for the generous donations from these 3 area farms and to all the golfers that bought tickets and played our barn game. Congrats to Todd Sisson for winning the meat package.

We love when we can be helpful. Had a consumer come in and let us know that since he did his soil test with us and followed the suggestion he was given to enrich his soil that he has gotten his first crop off his blueberry plants, and He is on his way to opening a you pick blueberry farm in Standish. We love success stories!
