At 3:49pm, Standish Fire-EMS was dispatched by Cumberland County Regional Communication Center to Sebago Lake in the area of Smooth Ledge Rd. for a snowmobile accident on the ice with an unresponsive patient. Standish EMS personnel worked to stabilize the patient who was brought off the lake utilizing our UTV before being transported by ambulance to a landing zone. Care was transferred to LifeFlight, whose crew is able to provide a higher level of care and rapid transport to a trauma center. This multi-faceted incident required a lot of communication, teamwork and personnel and the 17 of our members who responded worked together seamlessly along with other responders from Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office - Maine. Our thoughts are with the patient and their family.

**Hey Standish! We need your help!**

If you haven’t noticed, we got a metric ____ ton of snow this week. Our crews are headed out in between calls for service to clear hundreds of fire hydrants throughout our town. If you have one near your house and can safely clear around it, that helps us tremendously! A fire doubles in size every 30 seconds and timely access to our water sources is extremely important. To all our residents who consistently help keep them clear each storm, THANK YOU!!!

The officers and members of Standish Fire-EMS extend our deepest condolences to the members of Windham Fire Department and all of Deputy Chief Kooistra’s family and friends. Deputy Chief Kooistra served many years in the Portland Fire Department before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant and taking the position of Deputy Chief for the town of Windham. He was well known and respected throughout Maine and was a fantastic educator who taught many of our own members life saving skills that have impacted countless others. DC Kooistra leaves behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, professionalism, and a “service above self” attitude. His long fight with cancer never darkened his smile or spirit. Rest in peace Chief. The world is a better place because you were in it.
