It is the priority of the Arenac County Sheriff's Department to provide a safe county for people to live and work. Sheriff Jim Mosciski is charged with maintaining a safe jail and providing professional law enforcement services to the residents o

f Arenac County. The Arenac County Jail is located in Standish and has a rated capacity of 46 beds. The Correctional Officers strive daily to maintain a clean and safe jail for those inmates housed within its walls. The Arenac County Jail routinely receives 100% compliance ratings from the Michigan Department of Corrections during yearly inspections. Sheriff Mosciski continually strives to meet MDOC standards while keeping operational costs to a minimum, saving taxpayers dollars. The Arenac County Road Patrol operates 24 hours a day investigating a wide variety of crimes in Arenac County. It is our mission to provide a professional department who serves the community's needs. Deputies at the Arenac County Sheriff’s Office respond to a wide variety of calls and investigates a broad range of crimes. Deputies may be assigned to work in the School Resource Program, STING Narcotics, K-9 Unit or the Secondary Road Patrol Program as well. Sheriff Mosciski also maintains a Dive Team which responds to rescue calls on Saginaw Bay, as well as the inland lakes and rivers located in Arenac County. The Marine Patrol Program places Deputies upon the waterways of Arenac County enforcing the marine laws of our state.

đź’™Soo we will be putting together some calming bags for the Arenac County Sheriff's Department! These bags will provide our deputies with tools to help de-escalate high stress situations for children and individuals with special needs. Unfortunately sensory-overload is very common in high stress situations for all children whether they are on the spectrum, have a Sensory processing disorder or no diagnosis at all. That is why we would like to provide our deputies with some tools to help in these situations.
Each kit will include the following:
- Fidget tools to help calm, distract and comfort
- Noise-canceling headphones
- Communication boards for non-verbal or shy individuals
- Sunglasses for those with light sensitivities to the flashing lights on first responder vehicles
- Plush Toys
- Stickers
- Activity Sheets
- Coloring books and crayons
- Reusable drawing boards
- Weighted lap blankets to provide a sense of security from the deep compression
- Stored in clear tote bags for fast and easy accessibility
Some of these items are obviously geared more towards our special needs community but a lot can be used to help any child who may be feeling a bit overwhelmed in any situation and need a little distraction or comfort.

Around 2:15 pm yesterday, the Arenac County Sheriff's Department assisted in locating and rescuing a vessel in distress on Saginaw Bay approximatly 4 miles off shore from Eagle Bay. The vessel, participating in a fishing tournament had lost its motor. All passengers on board the vessel were unharmed.
