In 1995, Dolly Parton started the "Imagination Library" program in Tennessee in honor of her father who never learned to read or write. For the last 31 years, this program has delivered books to young children all over the country to help build & develop their early literacy skills.

Millions of children started home libraries because of Dolly Parton’s commitment to early literacy.

For more than three decades, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has mailed books directly to young children around the world — creating more opportunities for reading, connection, and learning.

Today, we remember and honor Dolly for a lifetime of advocacy and for the generations of young readers her vision will continue to inspire. In her words, “You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.” We couldn't agree more. 📚❤️‍🩹

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

In 2007 the Imagination Library had grown and made it's way to Oregon.

Almost 20 years later, the program has blossomed reaching every corner of our state as well as 5 countries worldwide.

Today, 48 Local Program Partners are stewarding Dolly's dream and bringing the Imagination Library to families in every one of Oregon's 36 counties along with the support of the State of Oregon. All because Dolly had a dream of getting books into the hands of children and filling as many homes with books and stories.

Over 77,000 children in Oregon are currently enrolled to receive a book from the Imagination Library, over 4 million books have been mailed directly to Oregon families.

31 years ago, Dolly started with a dream. With the delivery of an Imagination Library book, we honor that dream.

On behalf of our Oregon Local Program Partners and our State Team, we thank you, Dolly. We will always love you. ❤

You know your local librarian thinks this is the best program ever! AND YES the local librarian has a hard time not stopping people at the post office, local grocery store or where ever she sees parents with littles under the age of five to tell you about this amazing program. In honor of Dolly Parton share your favorite photo or Imagination Library book.

Many have asked how they can support this amazing program locally, this is for you. Let’s keep her vision going while making sure youth have access to books.

Today we’re remembering Dolly Parton and the incredible gift she gave children through the Imagination Library. ❤️📚

United Way of the Blue Mountains helps pay for the books sent to local children each month.

If you’d like to honor Dolly’s legacy, please consider making a gift in her memory to help keep those books coming.

A beautiful way to remember Dolly is to help another child fall in love with reading.

They are giving us a shot and letting us play amoungst the books 🤸‍♀️

Currently on the lookout for a space they can fit more friends in but until then we find ourselves at the library 📚

Please meet me on the 26th at 6pm and let’s see what we can accomplish together.
