Good Morning Byram Residents,

As I am sure everyone is acutely aware, the Township sustained fairly violent wind and thunderstorms last night. There were also unofficial reports of tornados in bordering municipalities. Because of this, there was substantial damage to JCP&L’s network, both on the transmission side (the wires that feed substations) and on the distribution side (the wires that feed your homes and businesses). This has resulted in over 1,400 meters out of service in Byram alone.

A few minutes ago, I had a one-on-one conversation with our JCP&L public affairs liaison. At this time, there are no estimated times of restoration (ETR’s) for any Byram addresses, but they should start populating over the next couple hours as damage assessment continues. I was told that the restoration process will be lengthy and people should be prepared to endure the entirety of today and potentially overnight tonight without power. And, of course, there are more storms predicted for this evening.

As an obvious reminder, if there are wires on the ground, do not go near them. If a tree is entangled in wires, do not approach it or try to remove the tree. The wires could be energized, and you could be severely injured or killed. Do not challenge or go around road closures. The Township will continue to send updates out to residents as we get them. But, again, residents who do not have power now should expect to potentially be without power for the next 24 hours.

This Memorial Day, Byram Township pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy today. We will never forget.

Didn't move your car yet? Now's a good time. Byram Township will be enforcing a strict no on-street parking policy during this snow emergency to facilitate efficient snow removal and maintain public safety. We prioritize the well-being of our residents and strive to provide exceptional service; however, repeated reminders are no longer feasible.
1. Please don't park on the street during snow or ice events.
2. Property owners must clear snow from sidewalks.
3. Do not throw snow into the street or onto sidewalks.
4. If there's a fire hydrant in front of your property, please make sure it's cleared and accessible.

Byram Township 2025 Annual Report

As we step into the new year and set our sights on the goals and priorities ahead in 2026, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the hard work and achievements of the past year.

Throughout 2025, our team demonstrated exceptional collaboration and dedication as we worked toward our shared mission of ensuring the efficient and effective operation of local government. Despite the ongoing fiscal challenges facing communities across New Jersey, our staff remained steadfast in their commitment to responsible, transparent, and cost-conscious service delivery.

I am incredibly proud of the Byram Township workforce for consistently providing the high-quality services our residents rely on and deserve. Our employees continue to go the extra mile to meet community needs, often exceeding expectations in the process.

I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to the many volunteers who serve our community - our Byram Township Fire Department, Lakeland Emergency Squad, and all our Township Boards and Committees - as well as to our residents. Your continued flexibility, patience, and engagement have been instrumental as we navigate evolving economic conditions while striving to enhance the quality of life in Byram Township. Together, we continue to strengthen our “Township of Lakes” as a place we are proud to live, work, and visit.

I encourage you to please take the time to review the information contained within this annual report. Public meetings are listed on the enclosed calendar, and we encourage your participation throughout the year. Residents have also been able to participate at Council Meetings by Zoom since mid-year 2023. Byram’s achievements are the result of a team effort that includes all our residents, employees, and volunteers.
