Yes, you did hear it right. Welcome to New Jersey where we go from a drought to a snow storm! Once again, we are in NJ so we have no idea, and kind of don’t want to know, how much snow to expect but here are some ways to be prepared for the first snowfall of the season!
🧂 Stock up on salt. No not the kind you put on your pretzel, but the kind you put on the road. Not only will this make your clean up easier, but helps prevent falls on sidewalks and your driveway which in turn prevents you from meeting us tomorrow morning!
⚡️Check your generator and make sure it has enough fuel. Snow can result in power outages and you want to be prepared. Give your generator a test run to make sure it’s functional.
🔋 Charge up your electronics in case of a power outage. This not only allows you to keep little ones occupied, but can be useful in the need to contact emergency services.
❄️ While we all know how much you want to dig yourselves out of the snow in the event we have a large amount, please know your limits. Take a break while shoveling and make sure you don’t overdo yourself.
🚗 Be very mindful and very demure when driving in winter weather conditions. Roads can be slick and icy. A little less gas tomorrow (although we know it’s Friday and your week is almost done)
🏡 Be a friendly neighbor! Check on your neighbors and make sure they are doing okay. In the event of a power outage, check on your elderly neighbors or those that rely on home oxygen to make sure they don’t need assistance.
🤞 Last but not least, cross your fingers and hope for an easy snowfall. Or a huge snow storm , which ever suits you best!
No matter the outcome, SNALAC volunteers will be ready to respond in the event you need us! Stay safe and enjoy the start of the winter season! ☃️
