Stanhope Public Library

Stanhope Public Library About the Library The Stanhope Public Library is a non-profit corporation with city support, governed by a Board of Trustees. In 1949, the Y.M.W.

Club decided that City of Stanhope needed a public library and immediately began carrying out plans to start one as their club project. They secured permission to use the town hall and spent much time putting in shelves and painting the building. In February, 1950, they were ready to start lending books, although the formal opening was not held until May, 1950. It was moved to its present location

in the Community Building in 1953. The library serves a population of 488….Today the collection consists of 6500 items including books, magazines, puzzles, videos, and DVDs. Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Stanhope Public Library to provide open and equal access to information, resources, and services in order to meet the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of the community. Remember to log out of your accounts!

Just a heads up today. I was called to the Hampton Public Library for a minor computer issue on one of the PUBLIC computers that they have for public use. Solved the issue, but on one computer I found that a local business person had logged in with their Microsoft Account..... Their PERSONAL Microsoft Account.

Well, so what? OK, so anything that I could have gone to online regarding to Microsoft, I could have purchased and used their credit card and their credentials.... I could have logged into their email and sent out some wackiness.

Since their email was there, I could have logged into their Amazon Account, changed their password and ordered myself some stuff and had it shipped to me.

On the same computer, someone had logged into their One Drive account... I could have seen every picture or read every document they had in there. Some people don't want to look at your personal photos on the library's computer..... just sayin'.

On the other computer, some computer repair whizbang personalized his Google account and left it on the desktop for anyone to click into. Also, 3 other Gmail accounts were opened and I could have gotten into them with just one click.

IF you MUST read your email or whatever at a Public Library computer, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE log out when you are finished. Never hit SAVE LOGIN or SAVE PASSWORDS because those passwords are saved on a publc computer at the library. Suzy tells me that many times when people use the Public Computers at the library it's because they are filling out resumes or doing job hunting research -- which may include sending / receiving emails or providing very personal information.

Please, just make sure you log out -- the people who left their information there really dodged a bullet.....and I logged you out.

Please join us Friday afternoon.
