Migration/Immigration seems an especially apt theme for our book discussion series this year. Our first book is Refugee by Alan Gratz, a bestselling young adult novel published in 2017. It follows three children from different decades and locations fleeing violence and seeking safety. Books are available now to check out at the library. Everybody is welcome to join us for a meal and the discussion on September 29.
Other books we'll read this year include Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy, The Sea Runners by Ivan Doig, The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio, and Women’s Diaries of the Westward Journey by Lillian Schlissel.

We recently created a Tween Reading Nook and added display shelves to highlight some of the great nonfiction books for young adults in our collection. We are grateful to Gus Hernandez for generously offering to teach 5-week courses of Beginner and Intermediate Spanish at the Library this fall, Saturdays from Sept. 19-Oct. 17. Registration is required, and since each class is limited to 10 people, we ask participants to attend all five classes. Sign up at the Library.
Classes are designed to build confidence, practical conversation skills, and curiosity about Spanish-speaking cultures. You do NOT need to be fluent to join either class. If you're not sure which class is for you, the Library has a handy guide.
