The Office of State Fire Marshal has completed its routine inspection of the Granite Quarry Fire Department, and once again, our department has earned a Class 1 rating, which is the highest rating available under North Carolina’s Response Rating System. The rating is effective December 1, 2026.

This accomplishment is a direct reflection of the dedication, training, professionalism, and hard work of our firefighters and officers. The state’s inspection evaluates critical areas including staffing, equipment, equipment maintenance, communications capabilities, and water supply.

State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor congratulated Chief Hord and the Granite Quarry Fire Department, recognizing the dedication and hard work of our entire team. He noted that residents can take comfort in knowing they have a highly capable team of firefighters protecting them, their families, and their property when an emergency occurs.

An ISO Class 1 rating is something our entire community can be proud of. It demonstrates the Town’s continued commitment to providing the highest level of fire protection and emergency response possible to our residents and businesses. It can also have a positive impact on homeowners’ insurance rates within the fire district.

Thank you to every member of the Granite Quarry Fire Department for your commitment to our community. We are proud of you!

The Constitution Matters—Especially in the Courtroom.

Judges in North Carolina have a responsibility to uphold the Constitution—not rewrite it, ignore it, or legislate from the bench.

Our judges should apply the law as it is written, protect our constitutional rights, and ensure that every person is treated fairly under the law.
