Stanton Fire Department Responds to House Fire

Yesterday morning at 10:03 AM, Stanton Fire Department responded to a house fire on South Main Street in Stanton. Flames were visible from the front of the home when Engine 407 arrived. Our crew, with assistance from Haywood County Fire Department and Brighton Fire Department (cascade support), worked together to bring the fire under control.

The residents were home at the time but made it out safely. The fire was caused by an overheating power cable connected to a space heater. The home is a total loss, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

As we move into colder weather, this serves as a clear reminder to plug space heaters directly into a proper wall outlet - never into extension cords or overloaded circuits - and to check your smoke detectors to ensure they’re working.

Fire units cleared the scene at 2:09 PM after operating for roughly four hours. Thank you to our mutual-aid partners and to the community for your continued support. Stay safe and stay alert this winter.
