Due to the generous support of individuals and organizational partners who supported the MI Ag Ideas to Grow With virtual conference, we are pleased to offer the 2021 MI Ag Ideas to Grow With college scholarship. This unique virtual conference combined past Michigan State University (MSU) Extension events such as Ag Action Day, Branch County Farmers Day, and Southwest Michigan Horticulture Days into one week-long virtual program, February 15-19, 2021. Even though the program was offered virtually, it was important that traditions such as the student scholarship continued. Youth did not have to take part in the conference to apply for the scholarship. https://events.anr.msu.edu/MIAgIdeasScholarship/

We are new to the area and are trying to enroll, we are just not sure what clubs would be good for our family? So we thought we would reach out here and see if anyone could help. TIA
Are there any plans to resume in person 4H activities in the state of Michigan? In the last year it has been extremely disheartening to watch the active and vibrant 4H clubs in our area wither and die out. Kids didn't join 4h to participate in zoom conference calls and sit in front of a computer for a "virtual event". They joined to be hands on with animals and crafts and friends. It had been extremely gratifying to watch my daughter develop as president of her 4h group and to see her come alive as she worked with her animals and projects. She and her friends looked forward to our county fair as the highlight of their summer. Her group, along with most of the other groups in our area have stopped meeting altogether. Kids have simply found other alternatives as the seemingly endless MSU extension shutdown has continued. These 4H members are missing not only the human contact, but the lifelong friendships they build through this great organization. The friendships grow beyond the local community as their circle of engagement expands with their knowledge and involvement at levels beyond the community. They network with adults who become mentors, employers, scholarship providers, supporters and friends. 4H is unique because it creates a cross generation network of people with similar interests. Often the friendships extend from cradle to grave as mentors and friends watch youth grow up, participate in major life milestones like graduations, wedding and the birth of children. The adult 4H member continues the relationship with friendship, support. The catalyst for these relationships is 4H. Continual neglect of 4H programs will result in societal impacts that are nearly impossible to quantify. Our children are back in school, have resumed playing sports and continue to meet with their friends. They never stopped raising and caring for their animals. The only thing that has been removed from their lives and development were the great times and memories of 4H. Please reconsider this shut down and let them resume 4H as soon as possible in alignment with their other school activities.
On behalf of the Montcalm County Fair Association and the Montcalm County 4-H Program we would like to provide a quick update since we have received so many questions. At this time, the fair has not been cancelled. A decision will be made on how the fair will move forward for 2020 in the next couple weeks. Prior to this, we would like you to participate in a survey to provide feedback from our participants for consideration. The survey is available now and is located here: https://www.montcalmcountyfairgrounds.com/ Thank you all for understanding this is a challenging and constant changing situation, we would appreciate your patience during this time. Survey must be completed by April 18th.
Who can participate? The Michigan Regional Future City Competition is open to Michigan students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th who are from the same school, a home school environment (a Home School Affidavit form will need to be completed), or are members of a nationally, regionally, or state recognized youth-focused organization, such as the Boy or Girl Scouts; Boys and Girls Clubs; 4-H, etc. The competition is team-based and each team consists of at least three students, an educator and a volunteer mentor. A team can include an entire class or as few as three students. 5th grade students are welcome to participate they are not eligible to go on the Washington D.C however.
Please note a time change for sweepstakes on Saturday to 11 a.m.
It appears that someone has dumped 3 beautiful roosters on the side of the road on Grow rd. Just North of W. Holland Lake rd. They have been there for about 4 days now. I’ve given them some food and water...tried to catch them but couldn’t...I’d hate to see them taken down by predators! Can anyone help?!
