ARE YOU A HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORE INTERESTED IN THE EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM AT MCC?

We have some information to share. In light of Michigan schools closing for the rest of the year, we have had to make some adjustments in our normal enrollment process. There is a lot of information here. Please forgive the length.

1. The new application deadline is May 22.
2. If you already have an application filled out, and you just need to turn it in, here are your options:

----Mail your application to: Montcalm Area ISD, c/o Shannon Tripp, 621 New St., Stanton, MI 48888.

----Drop your application off at MAISD’s main office at 621 New St. in Stanton. There is a drop box by the door.

----Drop applications off at Montabella schools during their food pick up times and dates.

----Drop application off at Saranac schools during their food pick up times and dates.

----Drop application off at Mrs. Humphrey’s house at 11075 Angel Pond Dr. NE, Rockford. She has placed a box outside her house for a contact free drop off.

3. Don’t worry about making sure you have a copy of your transcript in the application. We can get that from your counselor at a later date.
4. If you need an application, please email me at [email protected] and leave your name and address. I will mail an application out to you.
5. This is going to delay our testing that I talked about and the summer meetings that I normally have in July. Once we have all applications turned in, I will send out a letter with those details.
6. If your application was already turned in to your high school counselor, you are all set. I will make sure I get those before the due date.

SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS TALK ABOUT SCHOOL CLOSURE

The Order Closes Down Buildings, It Does Not Close Down Learning.

From distributing Chromebooks and purchasing internet “hot spots” to making personal phone calls and scheduling Zoom meetings to sending home assignments and bags of pencils, crayons and paper along with meals — local school districts are working to come up with a new way of educating students after school buildings were closed in the middle of the school year.

The Daily News reached out to the superintendents of the nine public schools in the newspaper’s coverage area for their reaction to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order regarding school closures Thursday as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Here are superintendent’s comments and tentative plans for their school districts, which the Daily News will follow up on as plans progress: https://thedailynews.cc/…/the-order-closes-down-buildings-…/

A Message to our Families from MAISD Associate Superintendent for Special Education:

In compliance with Governor Whitmer's “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order issued this morning to protect Michiganders across the state, MAISD must extend the original school closure to be consistent with the updated order. This being said, all MAISD programs and services (including transportation) will be closed through April 13, 2020. As many of you are aware, information is being updated regularly as it relates to this statewide issue. As we receive updates, we will keep you as informed as possible and as quickly as possible. Again, MAISD will be closed through April 13, 2020. Please visit our website for additional information and resources at www.maisd.com/about/school-closing-information-and-resources/

Area schools announce plans to deal with closures

This is a lengthy article but it speaks to each school district in Montcalm County and Montcalm Community College in regards to school closure during the next three weeks.

On Thursday afternoon, the superintendents of schools within the Montcalm Area Immediate School District (MAISD) gathered to come up with a plan for how to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

For families living in the Lakeview area... this may be a great resource for you during the school closure.

For families living in the Lakeview area... this may be a great resource for you during the school closure.

Notice to Families: Due to the closing of schools for a lengthy period of time, we have donated our perishable food items to the Lakeview Ministerial Association Food Pantry. Additionally, they received food from the Lakeview Sports Boosters purchased from their now cancelled sports banquet.

The food will be distributed at the Lakeview Community Church, with the target population being families with children, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020. The plan is to do this "drive-thru" style with volunteers meeting families at their cars with the packaged food.

Please share this information with anyone who may benefit.

Additionally, we have received inquiries regarding drop off locations for donations. Elisabeth Waldon from the Daily News shared the pictured list of local food pantry resources in Ionia and Montcalm counties. Please contact one of the listed agencies for guidance on donations. Thank you for your interest and concern in supporting our families during these challenging times.

03/14/2020

Montabella Community Schools has a survey below to determine interest in food service during the school closure. You do not have to be a Montabella student to receive this service. Please complete the survey if you are interested.

Montabella Community Schools is developing a plan to get free meals delivered to different areas of the district during the closure period. In order to help us plan, please take this quick questionnaire to let us know if that is a service that you would take advantage of. We are also asking for the number of children and a pickup location so that we can plan for the correct amount of meals at each location. All children under the age of 18 are eligible for the free meals, regardless of whether you are a Montabella student. Once this information is received then we will communicate the time for each of the deliveries. Deliveries will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on Thursday, March 19. Each delivery will have enough food for 3 days of breakfast and lunches. Please click on the link to provide us with this valuable information.
