Check out our featured students for the month of December. Both of these students attend programs at our The Montcalm Area Career Center - The MACC.

Here are our December Students of the Month!! Congratulations!!

Jared, from Auto, consistently does a great job when we are in the classroom and lab, as well as when we were learning virtually. He responded regularly to all of the assignments posted and put forth high-quality work. Our advisory committee chose him as one of the top five auto students last year and he is working hard to stay at that level. (Mr. Scheese)

Kaitlyn has worked extremely hard this year outside of the classroom to build her FFA portfolio. She placed runner up in the Ag lesson plan contest and third in the crop management contest. She and another student basically took over the work for this project. They created the final presentation and met with the judges over Zoom. She was elected as a regional FFA officer and is currently working on an agriscience fair project on her own time. This year, I have also seen Kaitie take the time to build up other members of our class, even during competition. (Mrs. Sturm)

Thank you, Jared & Kaitlyn, for your hard work!! 🏆🥇

A race to recovery

This incredibly emotional story comes from one of our very own employees about her husband and their family's journey through his recovery. It is because of Deb Kushion' knowledge of CPR that she was able to save her husband's life. She shares her story and her message of the critical importance of CPR certification.

When Ted Kushion's heart stopped beating, quick action saved his life.

William Seiter, Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On behalf of everyone at MAISD, we share our most sincere condolences with the family of Dr. William J. Seiter, who passed away on Wednesday evening. Dr. Seiter had the distinct honor of being our very first superintendent, a role he was awarded in 1963 when Michigan legislation created ISDs. He served in this capacity for 30 years and returned for a brief stint as our interim superintendent in 2003. He had a background in school psychology and a great love for education. Not only was he involved in the development of our ISD but he was also active in the founding of Montcalm Community College. He had a vision for what education could look like in Montcalm County and he was devoted to seeing that come to life. As our first superintendent, he was our founding father and our guiding light for 30 years. Our Seiter Education Center is named for him. Our thoughts are with his family and his wife, Marcia, who spent her entire career as a teacher in Montcalm County. Dr. Seiter left a legacy that will always be remembered and, for that, we will be forever grateful.

Legislation aims to temporarily address ‘critical shortage’ of substitute teachers

We share our tremendous gratitude to Senator Rick Outman for his willingness to discuss the issue of critical staffing shortages with his colleagues in Lansing. We need this relief in order to acquire substitute staff for schools throughout the State of Michigan. Thank you Senator Rick Outman.

Once students return to the classroom in 2021, school officials may have an easier time keeping in-person instruction in the classroom as the pool of substitute teachers expands.

A heart felt thank you to all MAISD persons for the blessings and memories of our dad, Dr. Seiter. He certainly invested in people and will be greatly missed by all. The bird bath/planter sent for his funeral was absolutely beautiful, and since mom and dad both loved watching birds, mom will competely enjoy this memory. Thank you to Penny Dora for your contiued communication and blessings. Debe Mitchell
The Montcalm Area ISD Transportation team deserves a huge shout out for their hard work, dedication, and care that they provide for our students. We cannot do this important work without each person doing their part, and man do they support! It was really amazing to watch our bus drivers and bus aides participate with Mr. Tyler Schultz (one of our brilliant teachers) and Mrs. Nicole Ciganik (our transportation dispatch/behavioral coach) in a conversation and professional development opportunity yesterday with the goal of continuing to build strong relationships with students, continuing to improve our ability to provide positive behavioral supports for students on the bus, and working as a team to ensure collaboration between the bus staff and the classroom staff. Our bus staff do their job with pride and it was extremely heart-warming to see them demonstrate such passion for our students as they work to improve our strategies when dealing with difficult situations. These next words do not come close to expressing it, but these individuals are the best and I am so blessed to be a part of their work.

Personally, I want to take a moment to honor all of our students, families, teachers, food service workers, transportation staff, administrators, and all of the other amazing people around the county for ensuring that instruction and learning continues through this very tough situation. You are all working and collaborating on the unified goal of maintaining robust continuity of learning opportunities that lead to student growth. It really is amazing to see our staff and families connecting and working together to ensure that the care, safety, and welfare of our students is our first priority while at the same time working hard prioritizing each student's education. What an amazing team! I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Montcalm Area ISD family. As a side note, the videos, photos, posts, and all of the other ways that you all are connecting with our students is awesome to watch/see. I remain always humbled by our students, humbled by their families, and humbled by our staff.
