Haywood County Fire Department was thrilled to be a part of the Haywood County Schools Back-to-School Bash held at Haywood High School on Thursday, July 30, 2026!

Our firefighters enjoyed meeting students, parents, and community members as we handed out fire helmets, stickers, and keychains to the young people of Haywood County. We appreciate everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about fire safety and the services we provide.

We were also excited to have several families sign up for our FREE Smoke Detector Installation Program and receive Carbon Monoxide Detectors for gas-heated homes. Working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors save lives by providing early warning during emergencies.

Want to reduce the risk of a lithium-ion battery home fire? Once you've finished charging a device, unplug it!

While lithium-ion batteries power many of the electronic devices that provide convenience and connectivity to our everyday lives, lithium-ion batteries also pose fire risks that can have potentially devastating consequences for home and property owners. Lithium-ion batteries store a lot of energy in a small amount of space.

When that energy is released in an uncontrolled manner, the battery generates heat, which can turn certain internal battery components into flammable and toxic gases.

In the event of a lithium-ion battery fire, homeowners should immediately evacuate their residences in order to ensure their safety. Once you and any family members are in a safe location, immediately call 9-1-1and inform emergency responders about the fire.

Haywood County Fire Department Awarded $39,430 State Rescue Squad Grant

– The Haywood County Fire Department is proud to announce it has been awarded a $39,430 Rescue Squad Grant through the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office. And Special Thanks to Rep. Johnny Shaw, Senator Page Walley, Carter Lawrence and His Office Tennessee Dept of Commerce and Insurance.

The Haywood County Fire Department was among 58 volunteer fire departments and rescue squads representing 13 West Tennessee counties that received more than $2.86 million through the Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training (VFEAT) and Rescue Squad Grant Programs. These grants provide critical funding to strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve firefighter safety across the region.

The grant funding will be used to purchase commercial-grade structural firefighting washer and dryer systems and thermal imaging cameras.

The washer and dryer systems will allow firefighters to properly clean and decontaminate turnout gear after emergency incidents, reducing exposure to cancer-causing contaminants while extending the service life of protective equipment.

The new thermal imaging cameras will enhance firefighter safety and improve emergency operations by allowing crews to quickly locate victims during search and rescue operations, identify hidden fire within walls, ceilings, and concealed spaces, and detect dangerous heat conditions during interior firefighting operations.

Importantly, this grant requires no local matching funds, allowing Haywood County to enhance emergency response capabilities without additional cost to county taxpayers.

The Haywood County Fire Department remains committed to providing professional, effective, and efficient fire protection, rescue, and emergency services throughout Haywood County. Grants such as this help ensure firefighters have the equipment necessary to safely respond to emergencies while minimizing the financial impact on local taxpayers.

Haywood County Fire Department personnel sharpened their skills in vehicle stabilization and extrication techniques to safely rescue victims involved in motor vehicle crashes.

Training focused on proper vehicle stabilization, coordinated rescue operations, and, most importantly, keeping patient care as the top priority throughout every phase of the incident. Continuous training like this ensures our firefighters are prepared to respond safely, efficiently, and professionally when our community needs us most.

A proud day for Haywood County!

Today, Haywood County celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for its new school, marking an exciting milestone for students, families, educators, and the entire community.

Superintendent Amie Marsh, Haywood County Fire Chief Dan Feathers, county and city leaders, along with numerous other dignitaries, joined a large crowd of community members to commemorate this significant achievement. The ceremony reflected the community's shared commitment to investing in the future of education and providing outstanding opportunities for generations of students to come.
