Memorial Day began as “Decoration Day” in 1868 — a time set aside to honor the fallen soldiers of the Civil War. Over time, it became a day of remembrance for all American military men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Today, we pause not only to remember history, but to honor courage, sacrifice, and the families forever changed by loss. Freedom has never been free, and this day stands as a solemn reminder of those who gave everything so future generations could live in liberty.

May we remember them with gratitude, respect, and hearts full of appreciation.

We’re putting together an upcoming exhibit and are looking for original local Western Union telegrams. If you or your family happen to have any tucked away, we’d be grateful for the chance to include them.

We do have a few military telegrams, but they carry difficult news. We’d especially like to share some that reflect happier moments—good news, celebrations, or everyday life.

If you have something you’d be willing to donate, please let us know.

So I’m needing fresh eyes here because something about this photo is making me crazy…but some say I’m wrong…so without saying anything about what’s bugging me….y’all have a look and see if anything seems “off”?

I mean other than the way the photo cut off his head…..hint….that’s not it!🤣

We need help to do this right!😃

We appreciate everyone’s input on this! Keep in mind—this is first and foremost a Welcome sign for Stanton. Its goal is to catch attention quickly and encourage people to exit, explore our landmarks, shop local businesses, and enjoy our great places to eat.

The “Sorehead” slogan is legendary and worth keeping. Drivers are passing at high speeds, so the design needs to be simple and easy to read at a glance. The bright yellow background helps the message stand out clearly.

As for the top portion, it’s just an added touch…the cherry on top!—and still open for discussion.
Keep up this discussion…remember this is not one person’s decision…majority will rule!
