Climb aboard a school bus, fire engine, dump truck, and more at Touch A Truck!

We're excited to once again host the City of Stanwood's annual Touch A Truck event at Stanwood High School on from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.

The SHS parking lot will be packed with construction equipment, emergency vehicles, and other big rigs for kids to explore. Be sure to stop by one of our big yellow buses, where little ones can climb aboard and get a closer look at how we safely transport our students every day.

The event also features face painting, food trucks, giveaways, and hands-on activities for the whole family. A sensory-friendly, no-horns hour will be offered from 10-11 a.m.

We love opening our campus for community events like this and hope to see you there!

We’re proud to partner with Camano Island Fire and Rescue to give our high school students the chance to learn fire science firsthand. It is just one of the many ways our Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs connect learning to the real world. Learn more about all of our CTE programs at cte.stanwood.wednet.edu.

Our cadets typically spend their first couple weeks of school in the classroom at our Country Club station learning the basics of fire science.

WE’RE BACK!!!

Our schools are buzzing again as students poured through the doors, reconnected with friends, met their teachers, explored their classrooms, and kicked off a brand-new school year!

There were smiles, hugs, high-fives, and plenty of first-day energy all across all of our schools. We couldn’t be happier to have our students and staff back together again!

A special shoutout to the high school students who joined us today to help our ninth-graders and our sixth-graders feel at home in their new schools!

We’ll welcome even more students in the coming days as we get the 2026-27 school year fully underway.

Here’s to an amazing year of learning, growing, discovering, and making memories together!

Backpacks ready? First-day outfit picked out? Alarm set?

Tomorrow, we begin welcoming students back to our schools, and we are SO ready to see those classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, cafeterias, and buses filled with students again!

The first day of school is tomorrow! That means school buses will be back on the roads, students will be walking and biking to school, and families will be gathering at bus stops across our community.

As everyone settles back into the school routine, please help us keep students safe by driving with extra care.

🛑 Stop for school buses with flashing red lights — traffic in both directions must stop unless you're on a divided highway
🚸 Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods
👀 Watch for children crossing streets, riding bikes and walking near bus stops
📵 Stay focused by putting distractions away and keeping your eyes on the road

A few extra seconds of patience can make all the difference.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Meyer Art Festival on Saturday in west downtown Stanwood such a success. We were proud to see students sharing their talents as artists and volunteers.

A special shoutout to the Stanwood High School Band for an outstanding performance that helped showcase the incredible musical talent in our district.

Events like the Meyer Art Festival highlight the many ways our students learn, create, perform, and give back beyond the classroom. Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, families, and community members who continue to support the arts and provide opportunities for our students to shine.

You may notice scientists working in our school fields this week!

The Washington Geological Survey is visiting several campuses this week to conduct non-destructive seismic surveys as part of a statewide natural hazards assessment program in partnership with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).

Using a long line of dozens of ground sensors and sledgehammer-powered vibrations, geophysicists measure how seismic waves travel through the soil and rock beneath our schools. The information helps scientists better understand local geology and can support the planning and design of future school construction projects.

It's another piece of our district's ongoing commitment to earthquake preparedness.

In 2019, we became the first school district in Washington to connect every school to the U.S. Geological Survey's ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system. When an earthquake is detected, our centralized intercom system can automatically provide students and staff with precious seconds to take protective action before shaking begins.

The crew is at Cedarhome Elementary today, but surveys are taking place all this week at other school locations. They come at no cost to the district.

We're proud to partner with state scientists to help improve our understanding of the ground beneath our schools while continuing to invest in the safety of our students and staff.
