On Tuesday, Miss Kamryn was here with the Roving Retirees sharing her new hobby, Henna! Kamryn talked about the history of henna, clear back to the ancient Egyptians. She talked about the henna plant and all of its uses, as well, as how different cultures use it for celebrations. For some added fun, each of our Retirees got to choose a design and Kamryn applied henna for everyone!

WE HAVE THE MOST EXCITING NEWS!!!!!

A couple of months ago, we were made aware of the St. Luke's Heartsaver Grant (huge thanks to Megan Meyer for the heads up! ❤️). The Heartsaver Grant awards 50 AED's to organizations in several surrounding counties. Our Director, Megan, did the required paperwork and submitted it.

We received our official notice on Tuesday, that the Stanwood Iowa Public Library is one of the recipients! After a training session in September, the library will receive a Zoll Automated External Defibrillator, sets of pads for adults and children, a case, and signage for use in the library and surrounding area! What an AMAZING gift for our community that could be the difference between life or death for someone.

To add to the excitement, Megan was invited to attend the St. Luke's Heart & Vascular Center Ribbon Cutting & Heart Saver AED Grant Unveiling Ceremony today! The new St. Luke's Hospital Heart & Vascular Center, a $25 million investment, is the most advanced heart and vascular care facility in the area. And Megan was so honored to be able to participate in the unveiling and be recognized as one of the recipients!

Another great thing happening in our little library!

Again, a HUGE thank you to Megan Meyer for alerting us of this opportunity. And an even BIGGER thank you to the St. Luke's Heartsaver Grant for recognizing our need!

New books and movies that have hit the shelf this week!

Last night, A Novel Idea Book Club finished their America 250 celebration by meeting to discuss Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis. It was a great treasury of behind-the-scenes stories of our Founding Fathers and how the country came to be!

Next month, we'll be reading The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yōko Ogawa. It is a novel about a single mother who becomes a housekeeper for a brilliant math professor with only 80 minutes of short-term memory after a traumatic brain injury.

Mindy Beekman, member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution was here on Saturday and gave an AMAZING presentation about Cedar County's ties to the American Revolution, including her own family, and great information about genealogy research!

DAR has around 3000 chapters across the U.S. with nearly 190,000 active members. There are also 24 overseas chapters in 12 foreign countries.

We cannot wait to have Mindy back in the future!
