Dinner Time...Ding the Bell!
It was every night at Mother's table. Growing up in the food business, we always had dinner at home. We always lived where we worked. Mother spent every Sunday night after the "Glory Dinner" with family (the one with the big meal); she would start her night with her "Shoppers" from the meat market and both grocery stores.
Then she worked from the list of sale items, checked her cupboards, freezer, and fresh stock in the fridge, and then, when it was time to wind down before bed, she finished her last Good Housekeeping magazine or Taste of Home, and she had her plan.
She would reach for her clipboard and make her menus for the week from the items she had gathered.
Then Monday, and it was off to the grocery store at the crack of dawn to be first in line for the best pickins!
Last night, when Chris came, I had two Ribeyes from my list. He brought the fresh mushrooms from his fridge, and I found a packet of béarnaise sauce, and he began the serious Chef duty of preparing the perfect meal for us.
I did my part and set the table, and for the first time in a long time, he and I had dinner...together.
Family. It's Everything! Especially at Dinner Time!
