Public Works Technician
An employee in this class performs routine and heavy manual work of an unskilled nature and variety of tasks requiring the use of hand tools, motorized equipment and cleaning streets. An Employee in this class also performs a variety of other related tasks, including water/sewer. Independent judgment and initiative are exercised in assuring that completed assignments meet specific requirements.
Minimum Experience and Training
Graduation from an accredited high school. Experience in plumbing maintenance, construction tasks or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license and have a safe driving record. Incumbent will be required to adhere to the “on-call” practices and procedures followed by the Water/Sewer Maintenance Department. Must be able to work overtime on short notice. May be required to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to properly lift 75 to 100 pounds. Must be able to climb, crawl, and crouch. Exposed to noise, fumes, odors, and vibration. Will work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
