Amidst this COVID-19 pandemic, the world is changing every day.

We are having to find new ways to cope with the multitude of struggles brought on by social distancing requirements, all while still dealing with whatever life gave us before this historic health emergency stopped us in our tracks.

“While these changes in our social activity, daily structure and for some, employment and financial situations, can affect our mental health and bring about increased depression, anxiety, and sometimes suicidal thoughts.

Our main goal should be to care for ourselves and remember that there is help available for these issues. “It’s also important to remember that this situation is temporary.”

Through the stress and worry of this COVID-19 event, these are the things that keep us going. We would like to share a special letter our Animal Control received. We hope it brings a smile to your heart like it did ours:

Dear Tracey,

Last July, my husband, a Duval County School Police Officer (retired NYPD), went to the Jacksonville adoption event looking to add a new pup to our family. He was just about to leave when he heard someone say, "Hey officer, why don't you look at this dog?" Well, it was your office, and the dog he saw at that time was named Kate. Of course, he instantly fell in love with her and adopted her. I should have emailed you earlier, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU so much! We renamed Kate as Cherokee, and she is the best decision my husband ever made. Cherokee and our other dog Mohican are inseparable, and she just loves our two boys who are nine and thirteen. With them now having to school from home, they just love hanging out with her as they do their work (she sleeps under the table on their feet), and she seems to know when they aren't focusing and comes to get me. I work from home, and I cannot imagine what I ever did without her.

I know this is a difficult time for so many, but I just wanted to let you and your office know how much I and my family appreciate you and all that you do. We cannot thank you enough. I've attached a few pics of our queen of the house. As you can see, she's won everyone over.

Stay safe!

Best,Cindy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Early morning fire under investigation

Bradford County firefighters along with the City of Starke Fire Rescue battled a house fire this morning along State Road 230 East of Starke. Just before 3:00 am Tuesday morning, firefighters found a woodframe home at 1438 East State Road 230 engulfed in flames. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control quickly. The house was unoccupied and there were no injuries, but the structure was a total loss.

The initial call came from a neighbor who reported flames and smoke coming from the house. The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office. There was no indication of any working smoke detectors in the home.

Our Emergency Management Team is tracking hazardous weather this weekend. Be sure to like and follow the Emergency Management page for instant updates on any severe weather.

Severe Weather Potential This Weekend:

Scattered thunderstorms are possible today across north-central FL including Bradford County. Main threats today are damaging wind gusts and hail, with an isolated tornado possible.

Storms this weekend will also be capable of producing heavy rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding. Forecast totals are generally 1/2" through Mon across the area. More rain is on the way late next week.

REMINDER - The Burn Ban remains in effect as long as the Local State of Emergency is in place. All residential outdoor burning is PROHIBITED and deputies will respond if a report of illegal burning is received to our Communications Center.

Yes, we did receive some rain and more rain is on the way Sunday and Monday but the ground underneath is still very dry and the windy conditions causes that moisture to evaporate quickly. Warmer temperatures also enhance the threat of fire. Please refrain from outdoor burning until the ban is rescinded.
