On September 18, 2020 the Starke Police Department executed a search warrant at 1642 S. Walnut St #A (Lincoln Plaza) in reference to an illegal gambling establishment. Detectives located gambling equipment, narcotics and firearms inside the illegal establishment. These locations are often catalyst for more serious crimes such as shootings and robberies. As such Chief Johnson has made it an emphasis to target locations known to increase the violent crime rate within the city. We will not tolerate individuals coming into our community with the intent to victimize and take advantage of our citizens.

We Love Our City.....

We just wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank our great employees that work in the police department and the line crew workers.

This past week the city saw two major weather events. On Election Day the city received over four inches of rain at City Hall during a torrential storm, and on Thursday evening another storm caused two transformers to blow. In addition, there was another outage early Thursday morning that was quickly handled.

Everytime there is an outage, our line crew risks going out to seek out where the problem is, make the necessary repairs and get the power back on as quickly as possible. Even in the middle of a thunderstorm, these men are dedicated to serving when called.

Also any time the is a power disruption, our police officers are immediately sent to the bigger intersections to direct traffic, even during a downpour. Yes, the law says if a light is out you should treat the intersection as a 4-way stop, but our officers go beyond to hold their post and assure traffic stays moving properly for your safety.

The City of Starke recognizes this dedicated effort and values the great employees we have serving our community. THANK YOU ALL.

Media Release
Starke Homicide

On Sunday, July 19, 2020, at approximately 9:08 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of East Washington Street for a possible burglary indicated by a window being broken at the residence. When officers arrived, they found that a window was smashed, along with additional signs of entry having been made into the residence through the smashed window.

Officers then made entry into the residence to determine if a crime was in progress and/or to clear the residence. Upon entry being made, a subject, later identified as Demetri Jaron Blount, age 28, was located on a living room couch. The victim was not responsive to officers, and investigation revealed that the victim had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his torso. EMS was requested and the victim was confirmed to be deceased at the scene. Officers secured the scene and contacted Investigators. FDLE and the Eighth Judicial Circuit Medical Examiner’s office also responded to the scene to assist.

Investigation of the area around the residence resulted in evidence of multiple gunshots being fired in the area of the roadway and front yard of the residence. The investigation also led to possible images of a suspect vehicle in this case. The images appear to be a dark colored, possibly 4-door vehicle, of an unknown make and model.

Starke Police Department Investigators are asking for anyone who may recognize the vehicle images, and/or possibly know of someone or something, between the victim and possible suspects (who would have access to the shown vehicle) that could have led to this tragic death, to please contact them by calling (904)964-5400 or calling the combined dispatch center and request them at (904)966-6161.

You cannot turn left into O'Reilly's or Jackson Building Supply when coming northbound on Walnut Street due to the construction in place. You must continue past McDonald's and Burger King and make a u-turn, going back southbound to turn right into those businesses. Please plan accordingly.

The same holds true for anyone going southbound and trying to turn into Captain D's or Taco Bell.

A MAJOR TRAFFIC ALERT as today is the first day of two big construction projects in the city. South Walnut Street (US 301) is reduced to one lane in each direction as crews prepare to replace the alligator Creek bridge.

If you are a police officer, correction officer, firefighter, emergency responder, national guard or military member, please know that there are more of us who respect and support you than those who don't. Thank you for doing what you do. You're essential! It is time for those of us with enough courage to show our support by having these fine people's backs. I would encourage those who feel the same to copy and post. I did.

Hi I hope you can help me as I’ve tried every avenue but am getting nowhere. I ordered a pair of in ear monitors for my son from a company JLA custom that it run by a Lee Jacobson who lives in Starke. Although being given many promises I have still not received any delivery and he is now ignoring all communications from me. I am in Scotland and have no idea how I would go about reporting this so hoped you could point me in the right direction. I‘ve also found out that there are a number of others who have placed orders with this company and not received their goods. One is in New Zealand. i have done some digging and discovered Mr Jacobson is also associated with a company Brevard Sound Systems. If you could advise me how I could report this to the appropriate authorities I would be very grateful.
Boy, they are keeping y'all busy. Stay safe in this weather.
Oh my!!
Thank you for your service
