CURTAILING RUMORS...

Just to address the most common questions coming in on the Rumor Control Hotline

1. There is NO CURFEW in Bradford County.

2. The BURN BAN remains in effect until the Local State of Emergency is lifted. Remember in the city limits of Starke there is a permanent burn ban by ordinance.

3. There is NO TRUTH that anyone must wear a facemask or you could get a fine. The wearing of masks is encouraged to help reduce potential spread but it is not mandatory.

All official word from the Sheriff's Office, Health Department or Emergency Management will be posted and shared appropriately. If you have any questions you can send a message to our page for a proper and accurate answer.

NO "BLOCK PARTY" ALLOWED TONIGHT

Individuals have advertised on FaceBook a “Block Party” to be held on Old Lawtey Rd. tonight. There will be no such party. Law Enforcement will however be very much present there and throughout Bradford County. As you know we are under a National, State and Local Emergency due to the Corona COVID-19 Virus. Our Florida Governor has issued Executive Order 20-83 which orders a health advisory against social or recreational gatherings of more than 10 people.
Also, members of this community have complained about such parties. We will protect the community against public disturbance. The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office along with the Starke Police Department will enforce the Florida Laws regarding a “Block Party” on Old Lawtey Rd. or anywhere else the community is disturbed. Several Florida Laws particular to this type of event include: Statute 877.03 Breach of Peace, Statute 316.1945 Parking or stopping in the roadway, 562.111 Possession of alcoholic beverages by person under age 21.
This is a horrible time to plan a “Block Party.” Reconsider. “We Care”

Sheriff Gordon Smith - Bradford County Sheriff

78 years ago today - December 7, 1941, America was attacked without warning at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, by the air and naval forces of Imperial Japan. Just before 8:00 a.m. local time, Japanese aircraft ripped through the sky, dropping bombs on ships of the United States Pacific Fleet and on nearby airfields and bases. The attack took the lives of more than 2,400 American service members and wounded another 1,100 American citizens. The brutal surprise attack lasted nearly two hours of chaos, death, and destruction.

Despite the shock and confusion of the moment, American service members and first responders on the island of Oahu mounted an incredibly brave defense against insurmountable odds. American pilots took to the air to engage enemy aircraft, sailors took their battle stations, and medical personnel cared for the wounded. Many witnesses to the events of that day perished in the attacks, leaving countless acts of valor unrecorded. Nevertheless, 15 Medals of Honor were awarded - 10 of them posthumously - to United States Navy personnel for acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty.

“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” – attributed to Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

In light of the cowardly attack yesterday at NAS Pensacola and previous attacks on American soil, now more than ever we stand proud in our resolve to defend the American homeland, Your Bradford County Sheriff's Office honors the men and women of the United States Military, their families, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for God and Country.

The Explorers received an introduction to the Fire Rescue Division at their regularly scheduled meeting. Michael Heeder (Fire Fighter / Communications Officer) presented a history of the fire service, exhibited equipment and fielded questions during the meeting. Since Bradford County Fire Rescue became a division of the Sheriff’s Office, steps have been taken to incorporate the division into the established Explorer Program giving our young adults even more career options.

If you know a young adult between 14-21 that is interested in a Law Enforcement or Fire Services career contact Sgt. Joseph Shiller at (904)966-BCSO or [email protected]
