Engine 1 is on scene at Pecan Tree Apartments on Thomas Street reference an electrical outlet smoking in an apartment. The fire is out and there are no injuries. Additional incoming units have been canceled.

Engine 1 is on scene of a traffic accident with injuries in front of the KFC on Walnut Street near Edwards Road. City Utilities are on the way due to a damaged power pole and a water meter. Please be careful driving through the area.

Happy 250th birthday weekend everyone! As we get ready to celebrate this great American milestone, your Starke firefighters are here to not just just protect, but to inform.

On a serious note, SFD encourages everyone to enjoy fireworks at public displays conducted by professionals and not to use any fireworks at home. They may be legal but they are not safe. The Best place to go is the Kiwanis of Starke Splash Bash, where Engine 1 will be on site to provided added safety for the community.

Every year, thousands of people are injured badly enough to require medical treatment after fireworks-related incidents, with many of the injuries to children and young adults. While the majority of these incidents are due to amateurs attempting to use professional-grade, homemade or other illegal fireworks or explosives, less powerful devices like small firecrackers and sparklers can also cause significant injuries. Sparklers burn at a staggering 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit (hot enough to melt metal) and are a major cause of pediatric burn injuries. Never hand them to young children.

Always soak both spent and unused "dud" fireworks in a large bucket of water for at least 20 minutes before throwing them into the trash.
