HONORING FLAG DAY - Presidential Proclamation

On Flag Day and throughout National Flag Week, we pay tribute to the American flag, the most recognizable symbol of the principles for which our Republic stands. For more than 200 years, the Stars and Stripes has represented liberty, justice, and the rule of law. Recently, as our Nation has come together to respond to the coronavirus pandemic, our flag has been a reminder of the courage, tenacity, and loyalty that define the indomitable American spirit.
Our great flag causes us to reflect humbly on the immeasurable price that has been paid to keep it “so gallantly streaming.” Throughout our Nation’s history, proud patriots have nobly answered the call of duty when our country needed them most. The Star Spangled Banner serves as an everlasting remembrance of the sacrifices heroes of every generation have made in conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our flag ensures that we never forget the incredible sacrifices our men and women in uniform have made to defend our liberty and way of life.

This year, Old Glory has waved over millions of brave Americans fighting the invisible enemy, often at risk to their personal health and wellbeing. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, healthcare professionals have treated and cared for those sickened by the virus, and countless American patriots have provided critical goods and services to their fellow citizens in these uncertain times. These dedicated individuals have risen to the challenge, meeting the virus on the frontlines with the same conviction and unwavering determination that has empowered our Nation to overcome previous trials. Just as we prevailed in those struggles, we will emerge victorious against this new enemy and again raise our flag in triumph.

The American flag represents the unity of our country and its people. No matter what may divide us, Old Glory should be revered and cherished, as a symbol of all that makes America the greatest country in the world. As we honor our beautiful flag on this day and throughout this week, let us vow never to forget the tremendous sacrifices made by patriots from generation to generation to ensure that the red, white, and blue continues to fly high and free. Today, and every day, I am proud to join my fellow Americans in standing tall and saluting our great American flag.

To commemorate the adoption of our flag, the Congress, by joint resolution approved August 3, 1949, as amended (63 Stat. 492), designated June 14 of each year as “Flag Day” and requested that the President issue an annual proclamation calling for its observance and for the display of the flag of the United States on all Federal Government buildings. The Congress requested, by joint resolution approved June 9, 1966, as amended (80 Stat. 194), that the President issue annually a proclamation designating the week in which June 14 occurs as “National Flag Week” and calling on all citizens of the United States to display the flag during that week.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2020, as Flag Day, and the week starting June 14, 2020, as National Flag Week. I direct the appropriate officials to display the flag on all Federal Government buildings during this week, and I urge all Americans to observe Flag Day and National Flag Week by displaying the flag. I encourage the people of the United States to observe with pride and all due ceremony those days from Flag Day through Independence Day, set aside by the Congress (89 Stat. 211), as a time to honor America, to celebrate our heritage in public gatherings and activities, and to publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twelfth day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-fourth.

DONALD J. TRUMP

Senior students and parents, don’t forget to pickup your senior week and graduation tickets this week! We still have about 80 students that haven’t picked up their tickets. Remember, the student or guardian must be present to pick up the tickets. No one will be allowed into these events without the correct ticket (children in pre-K and younger do not need a ticket).

We are proud of each and every one of them! We look forward to recognizing them at our Senior Awards Banquet.

Of these students, the 18 with the highest nomination scores between the BHS and NFTC faculty were awarded the Golden B!

The Golden B is one of the highest awards a student can possibly receive at Bradford High School. Chester Moody, Class of 1937, and recipient of the Golden B Award, and Dr. Al Rother, past principal of BHS are credited with bringing the Golden B recognition back to BHS 50 years later. Each year since 1986, this award has been presented to a number of BHS Seniors.

So excited to share graduation plans for BHS!

*Graduation Update*

We cannot wait until we get to recognize our AMAZING Senior Class of 2020 in person!

There are some school districts across Florida who are not holding in-person graduation ceremonies at all and there are others holding in-person ceremonies in June, July, and even into August. Based on all of our unique circumstances, the results from the parent/student graduation survey from earlier this month, and our desire to invite as many people as possible to celebrate our seniors, the following plan was devised for Bradford High School.

Please understand that our current graduation plans reflect social distancing parameters per CDC and state guidelines. As such, this plan will be updated to reflect current guidelines set forth by Governor Desantis and the CDC. Please remember that we do have a clear-bag policy in effect now. Also, look out for information sent out from the school or school district for the most up-to-date and accurate information.

Tuesday, June 16th - We will host a Senior Awards Banquet at 6:00 pm in the auditorium. Students will be given four guest tickets for this event.

Wednesday, June 17th - We will be hosting a graduation practice at 9:00 am followed by a cookout and Senior Celebration. That evening we will be hosting our Baccalaureate service at 6:00 pm. Each senior will be given four tickets for this event. Unclaimed tickets will be given as extra tickets on a first-come first-served basis.

Friday, June 19th - We will host Graduation at 8:00 pm. Students will be given eight tickets for this event. Unclaimed tickets will be given as extra tickets on a first-come first-served basis. For students that are unable to attend this graduation due to military commitments, please advise BHS administration ASAP via email as we have a special ceremony planned.

*June 20th - In case of a weather-related emergency that prevents us from hosting a safe Graduation Friday night, we will have a Graduation ceremony Saturday morning at 9:00 am. If this time also becomes impossible due to unforeseen circumstances, the ceremony will be moved inside the auditorium later that day.

SENIOR GRADUATION EXPENSE WAIVERS

Senior Expense Waivers are available at BHS for seniors whose families have been impacted through illness or loss of employment during COVID-19. Please contact the BHS administration for an application. Although payment of student debt accrued through a student's time at BHS is routine activity based on Board policy, the Superintendent and Board Members are aware that meeting this final obligation may be difficult to impossible for those students whose family members were not able to work or lost their jobs during the past few months. Custodial parents/guardians of students should contact Bradford High School to request an Application for Waiver.

Also, if a student is a McKinney-Vento student, there may be funding through the grant to help cover some or all of these expenses. Please contact Mercedo Davis at 966-6021 to determine eligibility.

The Superintendent and the Bradford County School District are committed to working with all of our families during this unprecedented time to provide solutions and support. Please regularly check our District website, FOCUS, and District social media for all official news regarding the impact of new legislation, Governor's orders, or other reports on Bradford schools. We work diligently to provide accurate, specific information for our school district in as timely a manner as possible. We will also have a new survey coming out on Tuesday this week giving our parents, students, staff, and community members an opportunity to provide their thoughts on potential reopening plans as we move forward. We appreciate your support and encouragement for our students and schools. #TornadoesTogether
