Yesterday, the Starkville Fire Department partnered with Brasfield & Gorrie Construction at the new Madelon Hotel project on University Drive for a valuable rope rescue training exercise.

During the scenario, firefighters responded to a simulated emergency involving a worker trapped in an elevated position. A mannequin was placed at the top of a pillar and safely lowered to the ground by SFD Rope Rescue Specialists. This training not only allowed our personnel to sharpen critical rescue skills, but also gave the construction crew confidence in knowing that if an emergency ever occurs, the Starkville Fire Department is trained, equipped, and ready to respond.

We greatly appreciate Brasfield & Gorrie for reaching out and taking such a strong interest in the safety of their employees. Their commitment to safety and willingness to partner with first responders speaks volumes about the type of company they are. We are thankful for the opportunity to train together and look forward to future partnerships.

Sometimes the smallest calls make the biggest impact.

Earlier today, firefighters from Station 1 teamed up with Starkville Police Department Animal Control on Lampkin Street for a rescue that was a little different than usual. A tiny kitten had found itself trapped inside a storm pipe beneath the roadway, scared and unable to get out. Starkville Police Department

With patience, teamwork, and a whole lot of care, crews were able to safely reach the kitten and bring it back to the surface. Cold, wet, and a little shaken up—but safe.

We’re proud to report the kitten is doing well and getting the care it needs. Soon, it will be available for adoption at the Humane Society, where it can find the loving home it deserves.

Calls like this remind us that no matter how big or small, every life matters. 🐾🚒
