Starkville Fire Department The Starkville Fire Department is a Career Department with approximately 65 to 70 full time employees. We are currently a class 3 insurance rating.

We have 5 fire stations with 3 ladder trucks, 4 engines, 2 rescue vehicles, 1 hazmat truck, and 2 trailers with specialized rescue equipment. We serve a population of around 30,000, plus the Mississippi State University Campus, which adds about 20,000 people on a normal day. We have three (3) divisions: Operations, Training, and Fire Prevention. Operations are made up of 1 Battalion Chief, 1 Capt

ain, 5 Lieutenants, 5 Sergeants, and 10 firefighters on each shift, there are three (3) shifts. Training Division is made up of 1 Training Officer and 3 on shift Assistant Training Officers. Fire Prevention is made up of 1 Fire Marshal and 1 Fire Inspector and 4 Fire Investigators. All employees at a min. are required to be NFPA FF 1001 and Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

The first MSU home football game is here, and we know the Junction will be packed with Bulldog fans! 🐶🏈

But today’s heat is no joke. With temperatures in the upper 90s and a heat index near 108°F, take care of yourself while enjoying the game.

☀️ Drink plenty of water
🧴 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
👒 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
🍺 Limit alcohol and remember it can contribute to dehydration
🚨 Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke—and don’t hesitate to call 911 if someone becomes seriously ill.

🚒 Quick Response Helps Prevent a Disaster 🔥

A quick response by Starkville firefighters helped avert a potential disaster this afternoon at Crossgates Apartments, 1087 Stark Road, when a balcony caught fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it had a chance to spread to the apartment or the building. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and only minor damage was done to the balcony.

As a reminder, grills are not allowed on apartment balconies and if you smoke, always make sure ashes and cigarette butts are completely extinguished and properly discarded.

This story had a good ending—but it could have been a disaster. A few seconds can make all the difference when a fire starts. 🚒🔥

🚨 GAS LEAK RESPONSE 🚨

Earlier today, around lunchtime, the Starkville Fire Department was dispatched to China Garden Restaurant, located at 821 MS-12 in Starkville, for a reported gas leak.

Upon arrival, firefighters and Atmos Energy investigated the building and confirmed the presence of a gas leak. As a precaution, the gas service to the building was shut off, and firefighters remained on scene while the gas levels inside the building returned to normal.

The gas service will remain shut off until the necessary repairs are completed and a follow-up safety inspection is conducted to ensure the building is safe for occupancy.

We appreciate the cooperation of the business and everyone involved in helping keep our community safe.

If you ever smell natural gas: Leave the building immediately, avoid creating sparks or flames, and call 911 from a safe location.

🚒 Motor Vehicle Accident – Hwy. 12 & New Light Road

Earlier today, Starkville Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Hwy. 12 and New Light Road.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to safely extricate a single patient from the vehicle. Once extricated, the patient was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital–Oktibbeha County with non-life threatening injuries by Pafford EMS for further treatment.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, and the Starkville Fire Department is honored to partner with Lambda Chi Alpha at Mississippi State University for a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Davis Wade Stadium. Mississippi State University

We climb in memory of the first responders and civilians who lost their lives that day, and in honor of the courage and sacrifice displayed by so many.

👨‍🚒 All first responders, military members, and veterans are encouraged to join us. Firefighters may complete the climb in full turnout gear if they choose. Police officers are welcome to climb in their duty gear or vest. Or simply come in shorts and a T-shirt — the important thing is that you come and remember.

🇺🇸 This event is open to the public. Anyone can participate after registering. Please help us encourage everyone to come and show their support for this special event!

Proceeds will benefit the Starkville Fire Department.
