I’m proud to announce $80,000 in grant funding for Downtown State College to implement a facade improvement program!

This funding will support exterior upgrades — such as signage, painting, and design enhancements — to stabilize aging commercial properties while preserving the architectural character of downtown State College.

Investing in our local businesses and downtown corridors helps strengthen the entire community 🏘✨

It was an honor to speak at the Memorial Day Festival at Columbus Chapel & Boal Mansion Museum in Boalsburg, the birthplace of Memorial Day.

From great performances by the Bellefonte Community Band to touring the Armory in the mansion, the event was a powerful reminder of the service and sacrifice that has so profoundly shaped our nation and our local community.

Thank you to everyone in Boalsburg who helped make this year’s observance so meaningful and memorable!

Memorial Day is one of my favorite weekends here in Centre County. From carnivals and community celebrations to parades and family get-togethers, it marks the unofficial start of summer.

But most importantly, this holiday is a solemn reminder to honor those who gave everything in defense of our country. And here in District 82 — home to Boalsburg, the Birthplace of Memorial Day — communities come together to remember those who left the comfort of home and ultimately made the highest sacrifice for our liberty.

This year’s observance carries special significance as our nation approaches its 250th anniversary. Since our founding, brave Americans have fought and died to defend the freedoms we enjoy and preserve a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” Their sacrifice stands as a lasting reminder that freedom is never free.

I believe this Memorial Day also calls us to recapture our spirit and unity as Americans. We should be people and leaders who seek to unite rather than divide. And as we look ahead to our country’s future, may we remember the sacrifices that built and sustained it — and recommit ourselves to the ideals for which so many gave their lives.

Wishing you and your family a meaningful and safe Memorial Day.
