What is a hero? She is someone who is caring, kind, and expects the best from every child that she teaches. Mrs. Hovis is an amazing 4th grade teacher at Mount Nittany Elementary school. If you ask any child that has been in her class, her impact is immense. She has the ability to reach every student in a special way. I know we have all had one or two amazing teachers. She is a one in a million teacher. I doubt that she will ever forget about her students. Her heart is one of the biggest I've ever seen. She is an unsung hero every day for so many people!

And just like that...we're back!

Our first day of school was filled with smiles, new beginnings, and so much JOY! From the beautiful welcome created by our PTO, to classroom games, self-portraits, laughter, and even a little dance party, our Lion Cubs jumped right back into the heart of what makes our school so special.

The first day is always full of excitement, a few nerves, lots of learning, and plenty of memories in the making. We are so grateful to our amazing staff, our supportive families, and—most of all—our students for making today such a wonderful start to a new school year.

Welcome back, Lion Cubs! Here’s to an incredible year together!

MNE Back to School Night - TONIGHT!
We'd like to welcome all of our First Grade through Fifth Grade families to join us for our annual Back to School Night tonight- Thursday, August 20th, from 5:15 pm -6:15 pm*. Please feel free to come for the whole hour, if you'd like. In addition to meeting your new teacher(s), you'll also have the opportunity to participate in a quick optional MNE Informational Session with Mrs.Nunez and Mr. Treweek.
First through fifth grade families with last names beginning A-M will meet in the APR from 5:15 pm -5:35 pm.
First through fifth grade families with last names beginning N-Z will meet in the APR from 5:55 pm- 6:15 pm.
*Kindergarten families, a separate communication was sent to you about KDG Back to School Night, which is the same evening from 5:50 pm-6:50 pm.

SCASD Support Staff Job Fair!

Save the date! All members of the community are invited to attend our open job fair on June 17.

The State College Area School District is looking to fill numerous open positions as we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year. If you have a desire to work in the education field, we’re looking for you!

Mount Nittany Elementary School that is a wrap for the 2025/2026 school year. We had a great year and will miss you all over the summer ☀️! Read lots and we cant wait to see you back in August!

As the school year winds down, Mount Nittany Elementary School celebrated our last Fun Run Reward with a teacher/staff Inflatable Race!!! It was great end of the year send off! We also did a send off to our construction crew with the MNE school song and a big thank you!

Today we celebrated Kindergarten with their end of the year concert. A huge thank you to Mrs. Upcraft, Mrs. Rockey, Mrs. Ondik, Ms. Hannah, Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Dale and Mrs. Rebarchak.

Fifth graders wrapped up their elementary IM year at the district wide track meet this past Tuesday. Checkout some of the intense moments, fun times and great sportsmanship! Way to go 5th graders on your last Mount Nittany Elementary School IM outing. Thanks to our coaches: Mr. Brackbill, Mrs. Nyman, Mrs. Laninger and Mr. Colin!

Monday was a big day at Mount Nittany Elementary School. We hosted our school picnic as well as the first grade talking book fair. First grade participated in our annual Talking Book Fair Project featuring a favorite book from the year. Our first graders did an amazing job presenting their projects to their families!

What a busy time of the year for the students and teachers! Lots of fun days. Last week our third graders spent the day exploring nature at Shaver's Creek. They rotated through several stations and even came across an unexpected visitor(snake)!! It was a fun filled great day.
