Today marks the beginning of Native American Heritage Month. The Staten Island Museum honors Native Americans starting with a Land Acknowledgement.

The Staten Island Museum is located within Lenapehoking, the ancestral homeland of the Lenape people. We honor the significance of this land and wish to pay our respect to the Lenape communities, their Elders past and present, and future generations. We also wish to extend this respect to all indigenous peoples who are present here today. We at the museum hope to evolve from stewards to partners in the care of this land and to deepen our relationships with the Lenape people moving forward.
