Staten Island Action Coalition

Staten Island Action Coalition Welcome! This page is dedicated to Political ACTIONS, something we are all itching to do since Trump took office and the insanity has begun. Collaborate with us!

We are part of a growing population on Staten Island that are mad as hell at the insanity of the current administration and just want to do something to show the power we can have when we work together. We are dedicated to fact-checking our elected official and setting the record straight about what is really happening and the impact on us. We also want to promote actions and activities happening

in our community, nearby in other boroughs, and even nationally. Everyone needs to take political action if we are going to survive and make an impact on the insanity. So everything from phone call campaigns and post carding to rallies, marches, and town halls will be posted on our site. Send us your Action notices and we will blast it out. We will maintain an updated calendar of events with suggested scripts and focused issues.

SIAC’s aim is to Educate, Activate and Mobilize and in that spirit, we provide some links for learning about various government initiatives … you might agree or not … but it is important to know.

Here are essays and articles related to this week’s Mail Voting ruling by SCOTUS
Mail-in Voting - a lot of us felt our stomach drop when we learned of the SCOTUS ruling on mail in voting, but knowledgeable people tell us it’s too early to hit the panic button.
• Read this Robert Hubbell essay https://tinyurl.com/2x9tfjzb on his Substack page in which he lays out these arguments in favor of remaining calm (for the time being):
o The Supreme Court ruled only that the lawsuit was premature because the US Postal Service had not yet issued a rule that could be challenged.
o The Supreme Court did not express any view on the merits of the executive order.
o Moreover, a second national injunction remains in effect as of Monday; the administration has not yet appealed that injunction, and the government says it will not implement the executive order unless and until the second injunction is lifted.
o Finally, the procedural objection on which the Supreme Court based its ruling has now evaporated, and the two lawsuits challenging the ruling can now proceed.

• Quoting from Democracy Docket: the legal battle will turn to the fundamental inquiry at hand: Whether Trump’s order and the steps taken by DHS and USPS to enact it are constitutional. Read Democracy Docket’s complete essay https://tinyurl.com/3w3adkcp. "What’s next in the legal battles over Trump’s attack on mail voting”.

• From NPR: Judge issues a new order blocking Postal Service’s plan for Trump’s mail voting order https://tinyurl.com/2t6ecjht. “Trump's order is expected to face more legal hurdles as this lawsuit and other related cases filed by Democrats, voting rights groups and two dozen mainly Democratic-led states proceed. Those challengers are asking Talwani, as well as another federal judge in Washington, D.C., to issue new rulings that would block USPS from carrying out its finalized plan and likely be appealed to the Supreme Court.”

SPEAKING OF MOBILIZING IN THE STREETS . . .
We had a busy week last week. Some pix from last Monday’s rally across from Nic’s office and Friday’s VB. Corruption and stealing … two hallmarks of the Trump administration and Nicole is complicit!!! Do you think Nic would like our signs better if they were 100% real genuine plastic gold?

MAYBE SHE’LL DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN APPEAR ON TV
The House returns from recess on Monday the 31st and it’s important to remember these 3 facts:
• Nicole serves in the least functioning Congress ever, due to excessive recess and low legislative accomplishments
• Nicole has rubber-stamped Trump’s most destructive bills to Staten Island and aligns her votes with him 95% of the time
• Nicole has never held an in-person community town hall for all her constituents in her 6 years
Why not welcome her back to work with a flood of calls to convey your upset? Call her in SI (718) 568-2870, DC (202) 225-3371, BK 718) 306-1620

STATEN ISLAND HAPPY HOURS
• Nicole’s Poll: Back in April Nicole’s campaign paid $44,438 to 1892 LLC, a political consulting firm based in Gallatin TX which specializes in “campaign management, polling, and direct mail.” The receipt says it was for a poll! What were the results? If they were good for Nicole, we’d have heard about it. But since we haven’t, can we conclude that the poll results were less than favorable for Nicole?

We believe that Mike DeCillis is making a real dent in her support, and that Staten Islanders and Brooklynites are sufficiently fed up with Trump and his cohort of conniving cronies and are ready to make the switch to Blue

• From SILive: Court rejects GOP challenge to Staten Island judge candidate. “New York Supreme Court Justice Peter P. Sweeney ruled that John Vitucci’s nomination was valid and ordered the New York City Board of Elections to place his name back on the general election ballot for the newly created Civil Court judgeship in Richmond County’s 1st Municipal Court District.” https://tinyurl.com/2e7m5t5f

• From SILive: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand tours RUMC NICU: Provides $2 million in federal support for unit expansion. Staten Island’s newest and tiniest U.S. citizens will have improved care for babies requiring advanced care at birth. https://tinyurl.com/bdxcsd9c

IMMIGRATION
The New York City ICE Hotline Number is 1-229-304-8720

A new tool to record ICE encounters? Witness: Record Beyond Reach - So far it’s only available for iPhones (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/witness-record-beyond-reach/id6800375426). No one at SIAC has tested this new app but it may worth your time to investigate it for yourself, especially because of the ICE surge on Staten Island.

ICE surge on Staten Island - ICE has continued their surge on Staten Island. Since Saturday, August 22nd they have taken over 6 people a day, mostly grabbing them off the street. We expect even more today (Thursday 08/27) as there is a report of 8 ICE vehicles staging this morning, and usually they look to fill each vehicle with 3 people. The immigrant community is living in fear. Many people stopped going to work this week, are cancelling medical appointments, are afraid to take public transportation (bus stops have been a target) and are afraid to go out to get groceries and essentials.

Left in the Forgotten Borough - Standing Up for Our Neighbors - Episode 127 of the podcast Left in the Forgotten Borough - Community Activist, Mary Hernandez, joined hosts Andrew Savage and Nanci Richards to discuss ICE which is present every day and appears to have a growing presence. Hear the details Mary Hernandez presents about this. Watch https://tinyurl.com/msjs4uyy

Staten Island Adopt a Corner - Adopt a Corner groups are community volunteer networks that regularly visit local street corners, parking lots, and hiring sites where day laborers gather. Inspired by the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), these allies act as witnesses, neighbors, and protective presences to deter harassment, monitor for immigration enforcement actions, and support vulnerable immigrant workers. Our local Adopt a Corner effort in Staten Island (Juntos Seguros) needs support and volunteers. Learn more https://ndlon.org/adopt-a-day-labor-corner/ and click to register on the interest form for more information about Staten Island efforts.

No more Money for ICE - Sign an online letter to Congress that they must reject any funding to ICE and Border Control for Fiscal 2027. In June, Congress passed the S.2 reconciliation bill that provides ICE and Border Patrol another $70,000,000,000 (that’s 70 billion dollars). Now Congress is debating whether to give these same agencies an additional $30,000,000,000 through the Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations process. Read more / sign at https://tinyurl.com/5339yxzw. This is why we protest and must vote U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis out of office. Not a word about the incompetence of Mr. Trump and by their silence they enable him to be his worst. Indivisible Brooklyn - INBK
Share widely; it is important for her constituents to understand the damage happening.

The comms director for U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis was asked to a comment to the Staten Island Advance's outstanding article this week. [link in first comment]
It was in reference to a protest about Trump's corruption outside of her office. He said: “The Advance keeps asking about the same 20 radical left protestors that stand outside the congresswoman’s office week after week."
I beg to differ. We are actually Mallliotakis' constituents, mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, disabled and those who care for them. And then of course he gave the rote answer about the wonderful things Malliotakis has accomplished. We can agree or disagree about that but we deserve answers to our questions that we have put forward for 47 consecutive weeks. By the way; I've been in touch with your office about an apology from your comms director.

Trump/GOP is destroying our once thriving economy! It does not bode well when our young people can’t get jobs and the monied class is making out like bandits.

Our 47th Malliotakis Monday was dedicated to informing Nicole that we will not be shut out of proper representation. She is complicit since she has not spoken out about president 's corruption.
