Statement on Georgia Court of Appeals Endorsements
The stakes in this election are just as serious, and the responsibility is just as important.
The 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th Congressional District Republican Parties are proud to stand together in support of Justice E. Trenton Brown III and Justice Elizabeth Gobeil for reelection to the Georgia Court of Appeals.
Like our Supreme Court races, this is nonpartisan on the ballot, but the direction of Georgia’s judiciary is very much at stake.
Justices Brown and Gobeil have demonstrated a clear understanding of their role. They apply the law as written. They respect the Constitution. They decide cases based on facts and legal merit, not politics, not pressure, and not outside influence.
Their opponents are not running in a vacuum. Democrats and left-wing activist groups from across the country have become deeply involved in these judicial races, spending money, running targeted voter-file ads, and working to shape the outcome of Georgia’s courts. They are not doing this because they suddenly discovered an interest in judicial administration. They are doing it because they understand that courts can become another avenue to change laws when they cannot win those changes through the legislative process.
That should concern every Georgian who believes in the rule of law.
Stacey Abrams and her allies have openly pointed to Wisconsin as a model for the future, calling that race a “blueprint for American progress.” Georgia voters should take them at their word and reject efforts to turn our courts into political battlegrounds.
We have already seen what happens in states like Wisconsin when outside money and political agendas take hold in judicial elections. Courts become battlegrounds, and public confidence begins to erode.
Georgia’s Court of Appeals must remain focused on the law, not pulled into partisan fights. It must remain a court that applies the law faithfully, not one that becomes a shortcut for political activists and special interests.
Now is the time to stay engaged and make sure voters understand what is at stake. Talk to your friends. Talk to your neighbors. Make sure they know how important these races are.
When you go to the ballot box, remember the names Justice E. Trenton Brown III and Justice Elizabeth Gobeil. Support their reelection and help ensure that Georgia’s courts remain fair, consistent, and grounded in the rule of law.
