๐ŸŽ‡ Fireworks Safety

Fireworks can be a fun part of summer celebrations, but safety starts with understanding which fireworks are allowed and the risks that come with dry conditions.

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ'๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐?
Residents may only use specific novelty fireworks such as sparklers, fountains, snakes, and smoke bombs. Fireworks that explode, spin, or leave the ground are illegal to use or possess within city limits.

It's also important to remember that Statesville remains under drought conditions and Stage 2 Water Restrictions. Dry grass, leaves, and vegetation can ignite quickly from sparks and embers - even from fireworks that may seem harmless.

A single spark can become a dangerous fire.

๐ŸŒŠ Stay Safe Around Water

As pools, lakes, and recreational water areas become busier this summer, water safety should remain a top priority.

Drowning can happen quickly and quietly - even in shallow water.

Water safety reminders:
๐Ÿ”ปAlways supervise children closely around water
๐Ÿ”ปDesignate a responsible adult as a โ€œwater watcherโ€
๐Ÿ”ปWear properly fitted life jackets while boating
๐Ÿ”ปAvoid swimming alone
๐Ÿ”ปLearn basic CPR and rescue techniques

Preparation and supervision help keep summer fun safe for everyone.

June marks the start of summer - bringing higher temperatures, holiday celebrations, and more time spent outdoors.

North Carolina summers can bring high temperatures and humidity that increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Protect yourself and others by:
๐Ÿ”น Drink plenty of water throughout the day
๐Ÿ”น Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas
๐Ÿ”น Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
๐Ÿ”น Avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon heat
๐Ÿ”น Check on older adults, children, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable
๐Ÿ”นNever leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for a short time

Recognizing early signs of heat exhaustion like dizziness, nausea, or heavy sweating can help prevent serious emergencies.

Construction of Fire Station 5 continues to move toward completion. Installation of the apparatus bay is complete, and spray foam insulation is scheduled to be installed during the first week of June. Electrical work in the apparatus bay is approximately 50% complete, and garage door installation is underway.

Inside the station, the bathroom upfit is complete, and all remaining house upfits have been finished with the exception of the kitchen countertops. Painting is expected to wrap up this week, and bedroom furniture has been assembled and placed in the rooms. Cleaning of the facility has also begun, and the Station Alert system is currently being installed.

Outside the building, gutters have been connected and preparations are underway for the installation of river rock once conditions allow. The brush pile has been removed by the Sanitation Division. Appliances are expected to be delivered within the next two weeks as the project moves closer to completion.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for Fire Station 5 has been scheduled for June 30, 2026, at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend and tour the new facility.

Proper installation and regular maintenance are essential to ensure your smoke alarms work when you need them most. Simply having an alarm in your home isnโ€™t enough - it must be correctly placed, tested routinely, and replaced when necessary.

Follow the guidelines below to help make sure your smoke alarms are ready to provide early warning in the event of a fire:

1๏ธโƒฃ Install at least one alarm on each level of your home. It is recommended to have one in each sleeping area and outside of sleeping areas.

2๏ธโƒฃ Test all smoke alarms, battery powered and hard-wired, once a month. Vacuum or dust around the alarms regularly to keep them clean.

3๏ธโƒฃ Change batteries once a year unless you have a 10-year battery operated alarm. Make sure you change the backup batteries in your hard-wired alarms once a year as well.

4๏ธโƒฃ Replace all smoke alarms when they expire after 10 years.
