Possible exposure dates/locations include:

If you touched or handled the goats at any of these events, contact your local health department before visiting urgent care/ER to see if preventive treatment is needed.
Rabies is deadly but preventable.

⚠️ Public Health Alert: Possible Rabies Exposures Linked to a Petting-Zoo Farm
Iredell County Health Department is working with state and local partners following confirmation of rabies in baby goats at a traveling petting-zoo farm homed in Harmony.
The farm has participated in public events and visits across multiple counties, including events involving children and older adults. Because rabies can be transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, people who had close contact with the affected goats during the potential exposure events occurring between July 28, 2026, and August 27, 2026, may need a public-health risk assessment. If you believe you have had exposure, call the Iredell County Health Department After Hours Line at 704-878-3037.

Meet Jako! This big, lovable 🥰, goofy Rottweiler is searching for a loving family to call his own. Jako’s life took an unexpected turn when his owner had to leave suddenly, and sadly, there was no one to care for him. Though we don’t know much about Jako’s past, Jako is slowly blossoming in our care—showing us more of his sweetness and charm each day as he builds trust and confidence.

Jako is a gentle soul and can be a little shy 😊 at first, especially in new places or around unfamiliar faces. When faced with something new, he tends to freeze rather than react defensively, and has never shown any aggression towards our staff. With patience, reassurance, and a gentle touch, Jako melts into a total cuddlebug, happily climbing into your lap (all 83 pounds!) for snuggles. Once he feels secure, Jako’s goofy, playful side bursts out—particularly when he’s around other dogs. Introduce him to a canine buddy, and you’ll witness his signature Rottie nub wag, a beaming smile, and zoomies that will make your heart soar.

Jako would flourish in a home with a friendly dog companion and either no children or older kids who understand and respect his boundaries. He’s searching for a family willing to give him patience, gentle guidance, and the time he needs to truly feel at home 🏡. 🦘🌸 Meet Roo, our Petite Pitty Princess! 🌸🦘
Roo arrived at the shelter as a stray with her three siblings, but it was clear right away that she was the tiniest of the bunch—just a quarter the size of her littermates! Because she was such a little peanut, Roo spent some extra time in a loving foster home, soaking up all the affection and care she needed to catch up. The best news? She’s thriving—growing stronger, braver, and more charming every day!

Her foster says, “Baby Roo is a tiny puppy with an enormous 💓 heart! She is incredibly sweet, loves to snuggle, and has a gentle heart and sensitive spirit. With a little time, patience, and a calm approach, Roo will come out of her shell and show you her playful side.”

True to her name, Roo loves to pounce like a kitten and wrestle with toys—even if they’re twice her size! She’d be happiest with someone patient and gentle, ready to help her build confidence as she discovers the world.

Roo adores kids and does well with cats, though she’ll need supervision because of her small size. Roo is a very special little puppy looking for someone who will give her the time and patience she needs to blossom. In return, she’ll give you endless snuggles, plenty of puppy kisses, and all the love her tiny heart can hold.
