Your vote is your voice. Your vote is your power. And as Shelton Moore, Director of Economic Mobility & Housing at I-CARE, Inc., reminds us in this episode of Keys to Home: if you don’t vote, someone else decides your future for you.

Shelton joins Tommacena and Justice to break down what voting really means for our daily lives, from housing and transportation to schools, safety, and the future of our community.

Shelton shares:

· His “why” behind civic engagement

· What he’s learned from talking with residents across Iredell County

· Why local elections matter just as much as national ones

· Common misconceptions about registering to vote

· Real barriers our PH residents face and the resources that can help

· What first‑time voters can expect at the polls

· Simple ways to register to vote in North Carolina

If you’ve ever felt like your vote doesn’t matter, this episode is for you. Shelton offers clear, practical encouragement and reminds us that every single vote shapes the community we live in.

Watch the full episode (link pinned in the comments) and share it with someone who needs a boost of confidence before future local, state and the upcoming November mid-term elections.

For more information on voting, registration, or updating your details, visit your local Board of Elections website or other trusted NC resources that provide voter registration and polling place information. Always confirm voting details through official state sources.

🌟 New Episode of Keys to Home!

Our Interim CEO, Donald Hicks, interviews Kelly Lopez‑Hernandez, District Leader & Translator at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61583470327823, an organization empowering kids ages 12–17 through vocational and culinary programs that teach resilience, life skills, and confidence.

This incredible team will be providing catering for the artists performing at the Levitt AMP Statesville Music Series and hosting a community benefit meal during our special arts/concert event on September 19.

We are so appreciative of Kelly and her staff for their dedication to creating opportunities for youth to learn, earn, and shine, and for partnering with us in strengthening our community through food, music, and connection.
