Thinking about becoming a foster parent can bring up a lot of questions and sometimes even doubts. But many people who thought they wouldn’t qualify are now making a huge difference in children’s lives.🧡 Here are a few of the questions we hear most often:

Do I have to be married to foster?
You don’t. Single individuals, couples, and families of many different structures can become foster parents.

Do I need to own my home?
Homeownership isn’t required. Renters can foster as long as the home meets safety standards.

Do I need parenting experience?
No previous experience is necessary. Training, guidance, and support are provided so you feel prepared and confident.

Is there an age limit?
Foster parents must be at least 21, but there is no upper age limit. Many older adults and retirees bring tremendous patience, wisdom, and stability to the children they care for.

This was the perfect way to kick off summer 😎

Omer and Wendy, two of our amazing CHA foster parents, were recognized for their incredible 19 years of fostering by the Bananas Foster organization at the Firefighters vs. Tailgaters baseball game last week!âš¾ They were gifted a suite for the game and enjoyed a personal meet and greet with both teams. They also received team jerseys signed by both teams, and Wendy was even personally presented with flowers by one of the players.

This was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture to honor two of our amazing foster parents! We are so thankful to have Omer and Wendy as part of our CHA family.🧡

Marion and Robert became licensed foster parents in 2020 and welcomed Kolson into their home, where he quickly became an important part of their family. While their journey included challenges along the way, they remained committed to providing him with love and care.

They recently finalized Kolson's adoption, and Kolson has brought so much joy and laughter into their home, truly completing their family. Although they have since closed their license, Marion and Robert hope to become relicensed in the future to provide respite care for other foster children.💛 We are so happy for this wonderful family and can't wait for them to make so many more happy memories!

Through our Healthy Transitions program, Marcus, a Transition Aged Youth, recently reached a major milestone by successfully obtaining his state ID after months of determination and persistence. Marcus was referred through community partners, and he was navigating adulthood with limited caregiver support and ongoing family and financial challenges that made accessing important documents difficult.

Over several months, Marcus worked step by step to gather what he needed, including securing vital records and verifying residency. With support from his CHA Youth Peer Support Partner and Healthy Transitions Clinician, he took initiative and continued pushing forward even when faced with setbacks. Motivated by his goals of employment and financial stability, Marcus remained focused on building his independence.

Marcus was able to obtain his state ID, and this was a major step toward new opportunities, including employment, stable housing, and essential resources. We are incredibly proud of Marcus and excited to see what he accomplishes next!💙
