It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to watch our community begin building our new therapy room alongside us. Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, encouraged, and supported the Make Room for Healing Campaign so far.

Seeing donations from our Amazon Wish List start to arrive has been exciting for our team. Every book, sensory item, toy, and art supply represents someone in our community saying, “Children deserve a safe place to heal.”

We’re still working toward our goal of fully transforming this space into a therapy room designed specifically for healing, including soundproofing for privacy and important building updates. Since these costs are not covered within our annual operating budget, we are relying on community partnership to help bring this therapy space to life.

If you’d like to partner with us in creating more room for healing for children and families in our community, donations can be made here: bit.ly/CAChealing

Thank you for helping us build this room with care, intention, and hope 💙

Healing happens through consistent support, safe spaces, and trusted relationships.

So far in 2026, Valley Children’s Advocacy Center has provided therapy services to 65 individuals, including child survivors and caregivers navigating the impact of trauma.

When children receive early support, it can reduce the emotional, behavioral, and physical impacts and create a stronger foundation for healing and resilience.

Early support matters. Expanding our space means expanding access to healing. Join us as we make room for more children and families to receive the care they deserve.

You Can Help is written by survivor Rebecca Street and offers an honest, compassionate look at the complexity of healing after sexual abuse.

Through her own story and the voices of other survivors, the book highlights practical, meaningful ways friends, family members, and support systems can help promote healing in the aftermath of trauma.

It’s a relatively quick read at about 160 pages, and each chapter includes brief “Practical Tips” sections that can easily be read on their own.

Sometimes support starts with listening. Sometimes it starts with learning. And sometimes it starts with simply being willing to better understand the experiences of survivors.

One of the biggest barriers we face right now is space. While the need for therapy services continues to grow, we are limited by the physical space within our center to provide ongoing support and healing for children and families.

Our dream is simple.
To double our therapy space.
To double the number of children we can serve.
To create even more room for healing within these walls.
And honestly, we can’t do it alone.

Today, we’re inviting our community to dream with us as we launch our Make Room for Healing campaign to build a second therapy room at Valley Children’s Advocacy Center.

A fully equipped second therapy room, with the trauma-informed tools that support post-traumatic growth, will cost just under $13,000. That total includes raising funds for simple construction items like a new door or soundproofing to help create the safe, quiet, confidential environment children deserve during therapy sessions.

If you would like to help make this space possible, consider:
✨ Donating toward the project
✨ Purchasing items from our Amazon Wish List (https://amzn.to/4dfyJpa)
✨ Sharing this campaign on social media

Thank you for dreaming with us and helping make more room for healing, hope, and support for children across the Shenandoah Valley 🤍

Books help us when we don’t know what words to say.

From body safety and emotions to mindfulness, adoption, grief, and healthy relationships, we intentionally keep resources available for children, caregivers, and families navigating difficult conversations and experiences.

Sometimes a book helps a child feel seen.
Sometimes it helps a parent find the words.
And sometimes it simply reminds a family they’re not alone.

We’re grateful to create spaces filled with support, education, and care for the families we serve across the Shenandoah Valley.

Healing doesn’t happen in a single moment. It happens through relationships, support, and the steady presence of people who truly care.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re honored to recognize the therapists who help make healing possible for the children and families we serve at Valley Children’s Advocacy Center.

Savanna and Hillary walk alongside each child with patience, care, and consistency, helping children process difficult experiences at their own pace while reminding them they are not alone. Our trauma-informed mental health services are grounded in trust and compassion.

We are deeply grateful for the work they do every day for children and families across Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta County, and the Shenandoah Valley.

Every year, we sit with nearly 300 children as they share their stories in a forensic interview.

What happens next matters just as much.

At Valley Children’s Advocacy Center, therapy is offered at no cost to children under 18. It’s consistent. It’s trauma-informed. It’s research-based and a turning point toward healing.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re taking a closer look at what healing really requires. The time, the space, and the steady support that helps children move forward at their own pace.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about what that looks like here and why it matters so deeply for the children and families we serve.
