To Our Residents and Neighbors: A Cool, Safe Place This Summer โ๏ธ
At SRHA, we know that summer heat isn't just uncomfortable โ for older adults and neighbors on fixed incomes, especially those in homes without reliable air conditioning, it can be dangerous. Looking out for one another through the hottest months is part of what keeps our community strong.
That's why we want every resident to know about the Staunton Cooling Shelter, opening June 29 at Faith Lutheran Church. It's a free, welcoming place to get out of the heat โ no appointment, no screening, just a cool and safe space to rest.
Inside you'll find air conditioning, cold bottled water, snacks, a first aid station, free Wi-Fi, and books to pass the time. If you, a family member, or a neighbor needs relief on a hot day, this space is for you.
Open June 29 through September ๐ MondayโFriday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ๐ Faith Lutheran Church, Staunton
Can you give a few hours this summer? The shelter depends on volunteers, and shifts are still open. Volunteers must be 18 or older, and a training session will be held Monday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church. To sign up or ask questions, email ๐ง [email protected]
Whether you come to cool off or step up to help, looking after our neighbors in the heat is something we can do together. ๐
