Habitat for Humanity of Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro SAW Habitat for Humanity operates to build and restore homes, lives and communities through faith.

We strive to create homes and environments where families can thrive, feel safe, and build a promising future. Our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love which shows itself in action.”1 John 3:18

Something extraordinary is happening in the Shenandoah Valley. 🏡

A home originally built on the National Mall was carefully taken apart, piece by piece. Every nail, frame, and pane of glass, hauled 65 miles down the highway and rebuilt on a hillside right here in our community.

Susan Knupp and Josh Talbott of Masonry Plus took on a challenge unlike anything they'd seen before. Mark Battle of Main Frame Builders, Inc donated his crane to lift every wall panel up the hill, contractors discounted bills, and partners gave their time.

“Our affordability is due to other people’s kindness.”

As far as anyone knows, nothing like this has ever been done in this area. And because it was, a local family will have a place to call home.

Strong partnerships help make our mission possible. 🏡

Our partnership with Stoneburner Inc. goes beyond building materials and job sites. It is built on a shared commitment to strengthening communities and creating lasting impact for local families.

The relationships formed through this work are what make it meaningful. Together, we are able to create opportunities for safe, affordable homeownership and a stronger future for the families we serve.

Every build comes with its own challenges, especially on a site with steep terrain. 🏡

We are grateful to partner with experts like Masonry Plus, whose experience and problem solving help turn challenges into progress. Despite the layout of the site and unexpected adjustments along the way, their team approached the work with professionalism and a commitment to getting it right.

Their skill and dedication help make projects like this possible and keep future homes moving forward.

Hands hard at work building hope. 🏡

Every nail, shingle, and hour of volunteer time helps bring a future homeowner closer to a safe and affordable place to call home. We are grateful for the volunteers who show up and put in the work that makes this mission possible.

We appreciate the expertise and attention to detail that Masonry Plus brings to every stage of construction on our Anderson Street project in Staunton. 🏡

From footer inspections to foundation, framing, and beyond, each step has to be completed and approved before the next phase begins. This process ensures every home is built safely, correctly, and with lasting quality for the families who will live there.

Skilled partners help keep our builds moving forward the right way, one step at a time.

On Saturday, April 11, we had the joy of gathering for our annual Building Foundations at The Foundry event. 🏠🤍

It was a meaningful evening spent with our community at The Foundry at Basic City Beer Co sharing a meal, enjoying live music, and coming together for both silent and live auctions, all in support of affordable housing across Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County.

We’re beyond grateful for everyone who showed up, gave so generously, and helped make the night what it was. Events like this are a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together with heart and purpose.

Thank you for being part of it and for helping us continue building homes and hope.

What can happen in just 10 hours? 🏡 🇺🇸

On the National Mall, a full home came together as a powerful example of how affordable housing can be built differently. This build showed lawmakers, industry leaders, and the public what’s possible when communities come together to rethink homeownership.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Innovative Housing Showcase is an annual event designed to highlight real-world housing solutions that make homeownership more accessible for families across America.

Our partners at SBCA built the home using precision manufactured components right in the heart of Washington, D.C. We would also like to thank 84 Lumber Company for providing the lumber that helped make this build possible.

This structure is now on its way to becoming two forever homes for families in the Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro community. What started as a demonstration of what’s possible is becoming a new beginning for local families.

More of the story coming soon. Stay tuned!
