Stayton 3rd Annual Safety Town! 🚦
Last week, Stayton Police and the City of Stayton teamed up to host Stayton’s 3rd Annual Safety Town! 🦺
Safety Town is a week-long camp for young children focused on teaching essential safety skills—from fire and bike safety to personal safety, how to make a report to 911, water safety, and the importance of wearing helmets, among many others. These lessons are made possible through the generous support and donation of time by many community organizations and volunteers. The camp highlights the partnership with local professionals and agencies who want to see our kids grow up healthy and safe.
Each camper was able to take home a brand-new life vest, helmet, first aid kit, along with other generous handouts, thanks to donations from community partners.
Safety Town is about teaching our young kids ways to keep themselves safe in their everyday lives and empowering them to know they are capable of prevention and safety—even at a young age—through making good choices, remembering their safety rules, and knowing who their trusted adults are in the community. ❤️
Safety Town is also about teaching life skills. These young kids learned about sharing, taking turns, being kind, being a teammate and friend, respecting others, the importance of good manners, and how to find helpers in the community.
However, Safety Town is so much bigger than all of this. It’s about bringing the community together, expanding our partnerships, and showing kids that there are so many grown-ups in their community who care about them and want to see them grow up with the tools they need to be safe, healthy, strong, happy, and productive citizens.
For our middle school and high school volunteers, it’s also about showing the power of volunteering and giving back to your community while creating future volunteers and mentors among our youth.

We were able to successfully launch our first year thanks to donations from the Stayton Public Library Foundation, Thomason Ford, Covered Bridge, the Mulligan family, and the Fiedler family. These donations covered the construction of the Safety Town houses and purchased the Kett cars.
Salem Hospital, as well as Santiam Hospital and Clinics, have been annual donors of goods that allow us to send home valuable safety items to each camper.
