Today, on the National Day of Prayer, we pause to give thanks for our community, our families, and the brave men and women who serve others each day.

We ask for prayers of strength, protection, and guidance for all first responders, military personnel, healthcare workers, and community leaders. May we continue to stand together with compassion, courage, and faith.

The Town of Stedman will be holding “Prayer in the Park” today, May 7, 2026, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at Ernest Freeman Park. We encourage our community to come together in prayer and fellowship.

🚨🔥 Burn Ban Lifted for Our Area 🔥🚨

The North Carolina Forestry Service has officially lifted the burning ban for our area, effective 8:00 AM on Sunday, May 3rd.

⚠️ Important Reminder: Open burning is now allowed with a valid burning permit from the NC Forest Service.

Even though the ban is lifted, we strongly urge everyone to continue using caution. Please follow all local guidelines and safe burning practices—conditions can still change quickly.

If you plan to burn:
✅ Obtain your burning permit
✅ Check weather conditions
✅ Keep a water source nearby
✅ Never leave a fire unattended
✅ Fully extinguish your fire when finished

🔥 IMPORTANT NOTICE: STATEWIDE BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥

The State of North Carolina has issued a burn ban due to increased fire risk across the region. This means ALL open burning is prohibited until further notice.

🚫 This includes:
• Yard debris burning
• Campfires (in non-approved areas)
• Burning of leaves, trash, or natural materials

⚠️ Dry conditions and wind can cause fires to spread rapidly, putting lives, homes, and our community at serious risk.

👨‍🚒 The Stedman Volunteer Fire Department urges everyone to comply with this ban and do your part to keep our community safe.

✅ What you can do:
• Avoid any outdoor burning
• Properly dispose of yard waste
• Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately

Your smoke alarm has ONE job… to wake you up before things get too exciting. 😅

But it can’t do that if the batteries are dead!

🗓 Here’s the rule of thumb:
🔋 Check your smoke alarm batteries once a month. (Yes, monthly!)
🔄 Change the batteries at least once a year — a good reminder is when you change your clocks for daylight saving time. ⏰
🚨 Replace the entire smoke alarm every 10 years. They don’t last forever, even if they still beep!

Pro tip: If it’s chirping at 2:00 AM, that’s not a ghost… it’s your battery begging for attention. 👻🔋

Take 5 minutes today to push the test button. That little “BEEP” could save your life.
