Whether you're moving into a dorm, apartment, or heading back to campus, a few smart choices can help prevent a fire emergency.

🏫 Campus Fire Safety Tips:
🔥 Never leave cooking unattended—even "just for a minute."
🔌 Don't overload power strips or extension cords.
🚭 Keep smoking materials completely out and properly extinguished.
🕯️ Skip the candles—battery-operated candles are a much safer choice.
🚪 Know at least TWO ways out of your building and where the nearest fire extinguisher is located.
🚨 If the fire alarm sounds, don't assume it's a drill—GET OUT and stay out!

💡 Remember: Ramen is meant to be hot... your dorm room is not! 😉

The best emergency is the one that never happens. Stay alert, stay prepared, and help keep your campus community safe.

🚒 Your safety is our priority.

🚒 Thursday Night Training Highlights! 🚒

Last night, our crew spent some valuable time working alongside our Junior Firefighters to sharpen fundamental firefighting skills.

The training focused on the core elements of structural firefighting and scene prep, including:
🔹 Turnout Gear Mastery: Learning the critical importance, function, and protection provided by our structural PPE.
🔹 The 2-Minute Drill: Practicing how to don our gear both correctly and efficiently under pressure—because every second counts.
🔹 Water Supply Operations: Mastering how to properly "catch a hydrant" to ensure a fast, reliable water supply to our apparatus.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, focus, and enthusiasm our Junior Firefighters brought to the training ground last night. The future of our community's safety is in great hands!

Celebrate Safely this Independence Day! 🎆

As we gear up for the 4th of July, the Stedman Fire Department wants to ensure everyone has a fun and incident-free holiday. While we love the spirit of celebration, we also know that the risk of injuries increases significantly this time of year.

Our #1 safety tip: The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to leave them to the professionals and attend a public display!

If you choose to use legal consumer fireworks at home, please prioritize these safety steps:

Sparklers are NOT toys: Sparklers can reach temperatures over 2,000°F—hot enough to melt metal and cause severe burns. Please keep them away from young children. Consider glow sticks or colored streamers as safer, fun alternatives!

Keep Water Ready: Always have a bucket of water, a garden hose, or a fire extinguisher nearby before you light anything.

Dunk, Don’t Toss: Soak all used and "dud" fireworks in a bucket of water overnight before throwing them in the trash. Never put them in a plastic bin or near your home.

Stay Clear: Never light fireworks near dry grass, brush, or buildings.
Adults Only: Fireworks should only be handled and ignited by responsible adults. Never try to re-light a firework that didn't go off.

Look Out for Pets: The loud noises can be terrifying for our four-legged friends. Keep them secure in a quiet, indoor space.

Let’s keep our community safe so we can all enjoy the festivities. We wish everyone in Stedman a safe and Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸
