As many of you noticed, we did not have a spring on Main this year. This was due to a lack of interest from the community. We only have 3 consistent members that go to meetings now, and we just can not hold these events with so little participation. That being said, coming up is the fireworks display. We would love to do something along with that, but can’t with no more community involvement. We don’t need ideas, we need people. In the future some tough decisions will have to be made. Christmas parade, bingo, Veterans Day parade, Halloween. We are asking you to get involved. Reach out on this page to us.

πŸ—³οΈ April 7, 2026 Municipal Election – Information for Steele Residents. (TOMORROW!!!)

The City of Steele would like to provide information on the two propositions that will appear on the upcoming ballot.

Proposition 1
This measure would change the current licensing structure for certain businesses from a 3-month (quarterly) license to a 1-year annual license.
The intent is to simplify the process for businesses operating within the city.

Proposition 2
This measure is a local use tax of 2.5% on out-of-town and online purchases (such as items ordered through retailers like Amazon).
Local businesses already collect and pay this taxβ€”this measure would apply the same rate to qualifying online purchases to help maintain consistency.

Example:
A $100 purchase would result in approximately $2.50 in local tax.

Revenue generated from local taxes helps support essential city services such as:
β€’ Police and public safety
β€’ Infrastructure and maintenance
β€’ General city operations

As with any ballot measure, residents are encouraged to review the information and make the decision they feel is best for the community.

Election Day: April 7, 2026

03/23/2026

Over the past two City Council meetings, the City of Steele has taken action to adopt two ordinances aimed at protecting the health, safety, and overall well-being of our community.

The first ordinance prohibits the sale of products commonly known as kratom (7-OH / 7-hydroxymitragynine) within the city limits. While not currently prohibited at the federal level or by the State of Missouri, this substance has been associated with misuse, dependency, and serious health concerns. The City is taking a proactive approach to reduce potential harm and protect our residents.

The second ordinance addresses public consumption of alcohol and ma*****na. Under this ordinance, the consumption of these substances in public spaces within city limits is no longer permitted. This measure is intended to reduce public nuisances and promote a safer, more family-friendly environment throughout our community.

These actions reflect the City’s continued commitment to improving quality of life and ensuring a safe environment for all who live in and visit Steele.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to strengthen our community.

Mayor Jacob Mitchell
