The Dauphin County Department of Public Safety (DPS), mandated by the Pennsylvania Emergency Ser...vice Code, 35 PA C.S.A., Appendix, Section 7101 et seq. The Department supplies training, guidance, resources, coordination and other assistance to the County’s underlying political subdivisions through their Local Emergency Management Coordinators. Additionally, the Department is responsible for com

pliance with the Federal Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Title III legislation, and Pennsylvania Act 165, regarding Hazard Materials Programs. The Department is also responsible for the Radiological Protection Program under several state and federal statutes inclusive of Act 147 regarding radiological materials. The Department is tasked with many functions and programs under the state’s Counter-Terrorism Planning, Preparedness and Response Act 227. The Department operates the County’s Enhanced 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center which provides services in accordance with the Public Safety Emergency Telephone Act 78 of 1990 as amended by Act 17 of 1998 and Act 56 of 2003. Lastly, the Department is a member of the South Central Regional Task Force (SCTF), which in regular collaboration with the 7 other member counties, streamlines the requesting and deployment of regional assets that otherwise would be requested through traditional mutual aid processing, thus increasing public safety through reduced deployment times.
