Last Saturday, our department conducted our annual pump testing on all pumping apparatus within the district, including three tankers and four engines. This important process took approximately eight hours to complete and helps ensure our equipment remains operationally ready to serve our community.

During the testing, several of our crews also took advantage of the opportunity to conduct hands-on pump training, further strengthening their skills and preparedness.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Brian Long with Boles Fire Department for conducting the testing and providing the necessary equipment to make it possible. We would also like to recognize and thank the firefighters who volunteered their time to assist with the testing and training on a Saturday.

Yesterday evening, a group of our firefighters deployed to the river for boat operations training. Over the course of approximately three hours, personnel had the opportunity to strengthen their skills and enhance readiness for water rescue responses. Because river conditions are constantly changing, this training was valuable in helping firefighters adapt and remain ready to respond effectively, even in unfamiliar waters.

As the weather is warming up, remember to please stay safe on the river — know your take-out spots before you launch, bring proper flotation devices for everyone in your group, and stay sober while floating. Please keep a close watch on children while around the water, as accidents can happen in moments. A fun day on the water is a safe day on the water. Let’s help prevent emergencies and avoid unnecessary fire rescue calls by planning ahead and looking out for each other. Stay safe and enjoy the river!

We would like to remind everyone who does control burning that you need to contact Crawford County 911 at (573)775-4911 and give them the address where the burn is located and a name and number of the responsible party. Crews have responded to numerous reports of fire only to find control burns. This ties up resources chasing these calls. We ask that everyone take precautions if doing any burning.
