Come out and join us for the Steger Firefighters Association Street Dance! 🚒🔥

We’re taking over the Old Fire Station for an end-of-summer block party with live music, food, drinks, a local rib contest, and plenty of fun!

Our community was just hit by another severe storm, marking the second major storm event in two weeks. Our emergency crews and public works personnel are actively out in the field assessing damage, clearing blocked roadways, and securing downed power lines.
​We strongly urge all residents to stay off the roads and remain indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary. Staying off the streets keeps you safe and allows emergency responders and utility crews to work as quickly and safely as possible.

​If you are out, treat all downed power lines as live and extremely dangerous. Stay far back and report them immediately to emergency services. Do not attempt to drive through flooded streets or around barricades.

​For those utilizing portable generators due to power outages, please remember essential safety guidelines:
​Never operate a generator indoors, in garages, basements, or enclosed spaces, even with windows open. Always place generators outdoors on a level surface, at least 20 feet away from doors, windows, and vents to prevent deadly carbon monoxide buildup.
​Allow the generator to cool down before refueling to prevent accidental fires from fuel spilling on hot engine parts.

​Plug appliances directly into the generator or use a heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cord. Never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet, as this creates a dangerous backfeed situation that puts line workers at risk.

​Ensure you have working carbon monoxide detectors installed inside your home.

​We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and resilience as our crews work diligently to secure the area. Please check on vulnerable neighbors and stay tuned for further updates. Stay safe

A huge thank you to Steger School District 194 for providing a free lunch today for the fire department and everyone involved with the Steger 250 festival.

​We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong partnership with our local school district here in the Village of Steger. The administrators, staff, and leadership are truly some of the most kind, caring, and community minded people you will ever find. They are always stepping up to support our local events and back our first responders.

Today, we had the honor of receiving a special visit from our brothers with the Ciudad Fernández Bomberos (Mexico).

​Each year, our friends at the Steger Estates Fire Protection District host the bomberos during their annual trip to the U.S. to receive vital gear donations for their department and community. While they were in town, they made a special stop at our station to visit and deliver gifts of their own.

​Despite their limited resources, they presented us with personalized plaques of recognition (Reconocimiento) for Chief Mike Long, Deputy Chief James Baine, and Assistant Chief Todd Ragusin, along with a traditional straw hat bearing their emblem.

​We are truly humbled by their generosity and thoughtfulness. A huge thank you to Steger Estates FPD for coordinating this connection every year, and to the Ciudad Fernández Bomberos for their dedication, service, and brotherhood.

​The bond among firefighters truly knows no borders! 🇺🇸🤝🇲🇽

At approximately 1:34 p.m. today, our crews responded to a reported structure fire at 64 West 34th Street.

​Thanks to an aggressive, fast attack by our firefighters and the seamless coordination of our mutual aid partners, the fire was quickly contained to the upstairs bedrooms, preventing further devastating damage to the rest of the home.

​Most importantly, no injuries were reported, and all occupants and their animals were evacuated safely.
​We could not be prouder of our crew for their quick thinking, rapid response, and dedication to keeping our community safe. Days like today highlight the incredible training, grit, and teamwork of our department.

​We would also like to extend a huge thank you to our mutual aid partners for their immediate assistance on the scene: Crete, Crete Township, Monee, South Chicago Heights, Park Forest, and Sauk Village.
