Reminder for Thurs/Fri if you're planning on being in the Steilacoom area!

Steilacoom neighbors: Please plan ahead for a scheduled townwide power outage on Thursday, Aug. 13, and Friday, Aug. 14, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day while proactive maintenance is completed on the local substation. ⚠️🔌

Reliable infrastructure is essential to keeping our communities safe and connected, and planned maintenance like this helps ensure the long-term reliability of our local electrical system.

The Steilacoom Community Center will remain open with backup power, and emergency services have been notified of the planned outage.

If you're able, please take time now to prepare and check in on neighbors who may need extra assistance.

Update 8/6/2026: "Our air quality remains MODERATE to UNHEALTHY throughout the region, generally worse from the west to the east into the Cascades. We're hoping for some improvements on Friday and into the weekend. " - Puget Sound Clean Air Agency

The forecast still holds for today, with air quality that is UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS to UNHEALTHY.
Some areas may experience VERY UNHEALTHY for shorter periods. Take steps to protect your health:

✅ Limit time outdoors
✅ Create a clean air space indoors
✅ If you must go outside, wear a well-fitting N95 mask

If you're noticing smoke in the area today, it's coming from a half-acre brush fire in the Gig Harbor area close to the Narrows Bridge. While the fire is not near Anderson Island, smoke may be visible or noticeable depending on wind conditions.
Be aware that air quality may be affected by the drifting smoke.

Can We Find Your Home in an Emergency?

When every second counts, firefighters and EMS crews need to be able to find your home quickly. A clearly visible, reflective address sign can make all the difference; especially at night, during heavy rain, or when smoke or fog reduces visibility.

If your address numbers are difficult to see from the road, hidden by trees or landscaping or are not reflective, emergency responders may lose valuable time trying to locate your home.

Order your reflective address sign from the fire department today!
