Each year, thousands of people across the nation are treated for fireworks-related injuries.

Before you light that fuse, take a moment to review the facts and share this information with your family, friends, and community.

➡️ Celebrate responsibly.
➡️ Protect your loved ones.
➡️ Better yet, leave the fireworks to the trained professionals.

A few seconds of awareness can prevent a lifetime of injury.

Our crews recently had the privilege of participating in advanced pumper operations training using the "Water Thief" system with nationally acclaimed instructor Andy Soccodato, author of "Water Thievery: The Art of Water Supply Operations."
Water drafting is a critical firefighting skill that allows crews to draw water from static sources such as lakes, ponds and portable water tanks. In areas without fire hydrants, or during emergencies that impact water infrastructure, drafting provides a reliable and continuous water supply for firefighting operations.
Training like this helps ensure our members are prepared to deliver water where it's needed most and strengthens our ability to protect the Anderson Island community.

Thank you to Mr. Soccodato for coming out to the island to share his knowledge and expertise with our members. Check out some photos from the training below! The Water Thieves LLC

It's time for an upgrade. The soda machine located on the east side of the fire station has earned its keep and will be replaced with a modern one. It has been removed and will be replaced on Monday with a new machine that accepts credit/debit cards in addition to the ever popular bills and coins. Sorry for the short interruption.

Last night, our crews spent time on the water honing their Lake Rescue skills.

As summer recreation season gets underway, these exercises are also a good reminder that water conditions can be more dangerous than they appear. Even when the air temperature is warm, lakes and waterways are often much colder than expected. Cold water can quickly lead to exhaustion, loss of coordination and other life-threatening emergencies.

The best way to stay safe is to wear a properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-certified life jacket whenever you're on the water. We train for emergencies, but we'd much rather help prevent them.
